China's terracotta army comes to British Museum

ooooooh!!! YAY! I have dreamt of seeing these in the flesh (or rather clay ;p) ever since they were first discovered and now I can [1]! In a while. But it's there til April so plenty of time to get mobile enough so spend some happy hours wandering around going 'oooh'.

From the museum website
The exhibition includes a number of the world-famous terracotta
warriors from Xi'an, China, which were buried alongside the
First Emperor in readiness for the afterlife, as well as some of the
most striking recent discoveries made on the site.

[1] sad, possibly. but, SO EXCITED!

For [livejournal.com profile] thesme_01 mostly, and also to get it out of my head!
Written many many years ago, as a protest when the remains of the Viking Settlement at Wood Quay were about to be bulldozed by Dublin Corporation to build themselves shiny new offices...
Sadly it didn't quite work and the offices are now there and Viking Dublin isn't so much.

Mostly for [livejournal.com profile] tyrell and [livejournal.com profile] thesme_01 there has been a new Intarweb group been set up for the Save Tara campaign - http://groups.yahoo.com/group/hilloftara/ if you're interested

Also thesme, while clearing out Annie's stuff, I came across her copy of Home on the Page and thanks to the joys of photocopiers, I now have my own copy. And 'Abide Wood Quay' firmly stuck in my head!

ETA SONGS! By Tom Delaney

(to the tune of the Sash)
For the Chambered tombs of Ireland
Were built by those long longs jews
For they circumscribed their forecourts
And as mixers stand accused,
For when they buried one of them
They packed in many more
Like his thirty one first cousins
And his seven favourite whores!

Tho this one is kinda fun! I picked 6 words from a list that I think describe me, you pick 6 then we see where they overlap! This is the Nice Things window.

I did do the negative one, but I'm not sure I'll post that one just yet. I shall just assume you'd all pick 'loud' (why is that negative anyway eh?)

Also, as a total aside, still poking at the Pyramid mapping site, I have come across my New Favourite Ancient Egyptian, a Mr. Userhat (you can find him in the glossary). I am not sure why his name tickles me so, but I love it :p

Totally stolen from [livejournal.com profile] _unhurt_, this site - http://www.thebanmappingproject.com/ has me transfixed. Maps, photos and plans of tombs in The Valley of the Kings, even with little movies to tell you about them. The 3D one is particularly impressive

Oooh skellingtons!
