On a bit of Good News for Monday, I have phoned up and ordered five tickets for the Neil Gaiman talk on 31st October, nominally for - [livejournal.com profile] malvino, [livejournal.com profile] being_here, [livejournal.com profile] gnillot and [livejournal.com profile] kimkali. And me!

If anyone else wants to come, the number to call & details are a few posts back, if anything changes between now and then and I have a spare ticket, I shall post again. or have a raffle. Or something.

Now, to plot the kidnapping...

So, Hallowe'en weekend, I shall be in London. Well, reading, but still

On that friday, yet again by STRANGE COINCIDENCE Neil Gaiman will be in London doing a talk/ signing as detailed here -

London School of Economics
Houghton Street, WC2A 2AE

Blackwell Charing Cross Road are very pleased to announce an exclusive London event with Neil Gaiman, to celebrate the launch of his fantastic new novel, The Graveyard Book.

Join us on the 31st October, Halloween, for a talk and signing, starting at 6.30pm.

Tickets are priced at 8 pounds and 6 pounds (concessions), and will entitle you to 2 pounds off either edition of the book on the night. The book officially goes on sale on the 30th October, so this should be a fun one.

Working week is nearly over (for me), which is GOOD. Tho, I have been Productive this week, so go me.

Also, more importantly, went riding again! This time managed to do a bit more, although it does highlight just how lacking I am in leg muscles now, particularly left calf, leading to a distinct lack of bending in that direction. Also inability to use both legs at once To Create Forward Impulsion (as the books say), which caused poor Ziggy some confusion when I was trying to get her to trot (I got brave. Also bored with walking ;p), but could only use one leg to do it. And even more confusion when she did trot and I stopped her again after 3 or 4 strides.
But, once we got moving, i did manage a few very short bursts of trotting on each rein - still sitting, not even contemplating rising trot for some time yet. Current plan is to go up once or twice a week, depending on what nights I can sort out with the others, and do a bit more each time, until she goes off for her summer break. Then start all over again after that (hopefully july/august), by which time leg should be a lot stronger anyway.

Came home with much more energy than I've had in weeks and managed to clear kitchen, put bins out, put away shopping, replace old flowers with fresh ones AND cook dinner all before hitting the sofa. I think I need to get out in the fresh air much more often, it obviously does me good!

Tonight, packing for READMEET then Pilates. Then tomorrow, a refined evening of Culture, Art and Cider with team horror Lovely People. And Pie!
Then saturday, more of the same, hopefully with the addition of Dasquian and Malvino.
Tho. Reading may be a step up from Feltham, but y'all really do need to move somewhere more Exotic for me to come visit. Somewhere sunny, by the sea would be good. Or just all move over here, save me the airfares ;p

So, on a bit of a whim and a last minute cheap flight deal, I went to London on thursday to see [livejournal.com profile] ghost_cre, along with [livejournal.com profile] thipe, [livejournal.com profile] gnillot, [livejournal.com profile] mirrorshard and others who may well have ljs but I'm not sure - hagi, yalph etc.

Cider was had. Also food. More of teh former and possibly not enough of the latter. Refined conversation was had, including Shakespeare, fine singing and the nature of orgies/orgettes (and whether these should include corgettes). And many more things I'm sure, but cider gets in the way there.
Then back to hotel, where in possibly a bit of error, a bottle of wine was ordered, to watch Die Hard 4 with [livejournal.com profile] thipe. The ensuing condemantion of the film, accompanied by rational and reasoned discussion of the complications of life, along with cultural, educatative discourse from a japanese phrase book (the phrase book of GREAT WRONG), including haiku, did not for some reason, endear us to our hotel neighbours who complained. Three times. Tho this did at least prevent us from asking the Nice Man for yet more wine. So probably an element of win there. Especially considering the size of hangovers the next day...

Friday dawned mostly ignored, til about lunchtime. Then headed to Borough Market for great food and cider sampling goodness. Also pancakes. And very tasty apple juice. OM NOM NOM. Then, in a fit of ambition, decided to walk from the market (at London Bridge) to the Tower of London, instead of getting tube. A very cultural, if slow, walk along the river ensued, with lots of architecture. And a great big battleship.
Made it all the way to the tower, but took so long getting there it was closing ;p So the only obvious alternative was to go the pub and wait for [livejournal.com profile] gnillot. And have MOAR cider, to go with yet more refined conversation and huge plates of food.
As a note for the future tho, I do love my cider, but to DRINK, not WEAR *eyes Gnillot*
Eventually the pub shut and it was time to head back to the hotel, somewhat damp and smelling of (mostly) apples. Once there the joys of free wireless were discovered, leading to much harry enfield. Also more eduction from teh japanese phrasebook, including Useful things like 'Bite down on this', 'Come back, I haven't finished', 'Why did i let you near me?', 'I didn't realise what I was doing was wrong' and the very vital 'It helps to have a sense of humour!'. Oh and also learnt that Gok Kwan is NOT japanese for Sorry :p

Saturday began with shuffling round the shops at paddington, waiting nearly AN HOUR for the stupid woman to bring a croissant (because she seemed to think i was lying when I said I ordered it), book buying and drinking coke til it was time to go. Then Joye, heathrow. Discovered the flaw in the plan of travelling with aerlingus, notably, their gate is about as far away from the rest of heathrow as it is possible to be.
However eventually got there and got on plane and was greatly amused by the best book about Pirates ever. Which I will pimp further when I have it by me to remember the name ;p
Then home. and SLEEEEP LOVELY SLEEEP. Followed by popcorn and watching Chronicles of Riddick. Then MOAR SLEEP.

Altogether, a successful weekend I think ;)

Meh. Went to the dentist today and then came straight to work and they all MOCKED ME cruelly. Everyone seems very giddy today for some reason and not much work is getting done. So i am following suit and will present the tale of the weekend! With fun, frolics, nuns and Mr T.

Friday )

hmm. This is getting LONG. Anyway, onwards!

Saturday! )

It was a busy weekend ;p

Sunday )

All in all, a very fine weekend, it was lovely to see everyone and be Refined, Dignified International Persons of Mystery. And drink all that cider.

I highly recommend going to see Mark Thomas if you get the chance. Just don't rely on anyone else if you want anything signed (bastards).

Physio etc

Friday was a nice quiet evening with a bottle of wine, the mud and a few phonecalls from York. I *may* have been slightly tipsy by then ;)
Sat up later than intended because by chance finally caught some SG1 with Adam Balwin in, yay!

Saturday started later than intended due to this, eventually got vaguely organised and set off for Dublin 4ish and arrived at [livejournal.com profile] thesme_01's in good time for catching up and getting ready for our Nice Civilised and Mature evening out with the ladies of LJ (Fragglechick, Mollydot, Pheyonah, Cosmicdancer, Lazy hoor. Too many for tags ;p). And [livejournal.com profile] tiquetoque and Gweedo (who is on the mud but not lj and that's far too long for an acronym ;p).

We had a very nice meal in a very civilised manner as we are all very Nice and Polite people who wouldn't talk about writing gay porn or composing gay porn haikus involving the Shat and the Hoff or lovely dirty rugby bottoms or anything like that at all. Oh no.

Then we went on a quest for a Not Packed Pub, found one and spent the rest of the evening sipping sherry while engaging in philosophical debate and continuing to be very Mature and Polite and Civilised. No-one mentioned mucus at all.

You can see from the photographs just how mature and civilised we were.

See? We Are Lovely )

Sunday was... mostly painful. And sleepy. Which are not great combinations for driving around dublin then the 100 miles or so back home, but I made it eventually ;)
hellison: (cider)
So what DID actually happen at the weekend? I meant to do this yesterday, but it was just too much effort :p

Beer Fest! )

ps [livejournal.com profile] thipe, I give you The Blood Hoff. Remember children, this is a Disturbing Image.
pps Who else did I promise links to, and what of? I was to send someone the ebaumsworld dramatic reading thing I think...

I am packed, just having breakfast before i go and fucking cats brought in another fucking mouse and left it and it is just SITTING there and I don't know if it is alive or dead but it doesn't look very dead and I don't want to touch it in case it moves, but I can't LEAVE it here all weekend OH NOES OH NOES

Thats the 4th one in FOUR DAYS. Last night's one I discovered just as the window cleaner came round and I made him take it away because it wasn't quite dead. Until he stood on it. Which I didn't *quite* approve off and I DEFINITELY need a new rug for the living room now. He did say the empty house across the road is full of them, so it's like fucking take-out heaven for the cats.

ARGGH. I have to leave in 10 minutes, I dont have TIME for zombie mice attackes!
*sits with feet up on chair*

ETA Fuck it. Have phoned the Logue in his capacity as Auxiliary Cat Feeder and he's going to call in after work and get rid of it. I'm going.

Right, might not be online much before the weekend, due to Busy Work and having [livejournal.com profile] tiquetoque to entertain in the evenings, so here are details for Saturday, such as they are ;)

Staying at the Royal Garden Hotel

Drinking in the Elephant and Castle, which is here, from about 6pm on Saturday

Both just a short step from High St. Kensington Tube station.
I have lost track of who all is coming again, so let me know below. All welcome ;)
If you need a phone no. for contacting, email the lj address in my user info.

[livejournal.com profile] leeda are you and MIKE POSTING still coming in Sat. afternoon?
Likewise [livejournal.com profile] malvino? (btw you may want to bring along a bit of a 'buy hellison drinks so I get a glowing reference' fund :p)

You know, deciding to round off the bank holiday weekend by drinking a bottle of wine and not going to bed til 2 may not have been the best idea ever, even if it did seem like a really good idea at the time.
Also have odd aches from the gardening yesterday - the horse has only been away a few weeks and already everything is seizing up, woe.

But less of the whinging, have finally got round to booking hotel and flights for London in June, hurrah!

Staying here, nearest tube stop is Kensington High st., for anyone wanting to come out for a pint or some on Saturday 17th June. There are a few pubs around there, best bet maybe to meet up in the hotel bar then decamp elsewhere (since it looks like it might well be horribly overpriced). Any recommendations/suggests welcome ;)

Other plans include window shopping, sleeping and possibly traipsing round a museum/gallery for a while.
The V&A is a strong contender, since I've never been there, it's not too far from the hotel and has a few exhibitions on, including one of various things the Che Guevara image has ended up on. Tho if anything like That Shirt is in there, might not be a good one to do with a hangover :p

ps [livejournal.com profile] leeda can you make pints after work on the Friday (16th) then? I can come find you I'm sure ;)
