Compare and contrast -

Govt. propose bill to introduce internment (imprisonment without trial) for people suspected of terrorist acts/links/leanings and are defeated.

Same govt. publishes legislation to allow those suspect and/or convicted of terrorist acts/links who are on the run from N.Ireland to return, be convicted but not imprisoned, including some people who are allegedly still on the run from internment policy introduced here in the 70's.

It's not very often at all I'd find myself in agreement with Reg Empey (leader of unionist party) but -
"The prime minister is guilty of sending out completely mixed messages," he said.
"On the one hand he is proposing an effective amnesty for some of the most barbaric terrorists in this part of the UK, on the other he proposes tough new laws for terrorists and terrorist related activity on the mainland."

Not surprisingly Sinn Fein are all for it...

Anyway, I can teach y'all a few verses of 'the men behind the wire' if you'd like!
