Take THAT: Special grants for communal facilities. Under the scheme of grants for the provision of communal facilities in voluntary housing projects, suitable proposals may qualify for grants equivalent to ?2,000 for each unit of living accommodation, subject to a maximum of 90% of the cost. The grants are financed from National Lottery Funds with ?0.5 million made available each year since 1991. To the end of 1994, grants were approved for 45 projects involving workds such as the provision of communal kitchen/dining facilities, recreation rooms, meeting halls, therapy facilities and laundries. The bulk of the grants have been allocated to voluntary bodies accommodating elderly, homeless or disabled people. In view of the strong demand from voluntary bodies for these grants, the financial provision for them is being increased to ?0.75 million in 1995. HA!
