Jul. 14th, 2004 12:39 pmIn case any of you were wondering about the whole horse thing, this is her -
http://eatin.fotopic.net/p828370.html
She was then just 5 yrs old, just broken in and the sweetest horse I have ever come across. The only time she showed any resistance was at crossing water, which she had a terror of. A lot of time and patience and slow, gentle effort eventually cured that tho (which maybe why i resent the beatings remark so much). The day she willing walked through the stream was one of the proudest of my life ;)
She was a total darling and having her dragged me out of the blackness that followed the Chrismas of DEATH and the constant funerals.
However she was always thin and got tired very quickly, so we got the vet out and it turned out she had a heart so weak she couldn't be ridden at all anymore. The vet wanted to put her down since, in his EXACT words, 'she's no real use to anyone'.
Luckily, most people don't think that way, and I found a lovely man who ran a sanctuary who took her in, so she could spend happy days lazing about with other horses eating grass.
Sending her away was still possibly the hardest thing I have ever had to do, but it was the best thing for her (just not for me).
I have another horse on loan now, who is lovely,

but I have nowhere near the same level of attachment to her, which is a good thing probably ;)
