Ok. So lately, when talking to people, I have noticed a distinct amount of whinging creeping in, far too much broken ankle related whining.

I have therefore decided to make a list of the positive sides of this (for there are actually quite a few) and stop being such a bloody moaner.

1. Lazing - I am incredibly lazy and now I have PERFECT excuse to sit around all day doing feck all! AND being brought things instead of having to move!

2. Reading - I have much more time to read and have caught up on books I meant to read for ages and a few new ones I'd never had got round to otherwise, from Harry Potter to Bill Bryson (finally I may finish A Brief History of Nearly Everything!) and many others in between. Actually, there may even be a seperate post in books read over the past weeks...

3. Family - getting to see so much more of them, particularly small niece and nephew who before I only saw briefly every couple of weeks. Also I know Mum is loving having company in the house, and while there isn't much I can do to help out, I can manage some of the little things, like giving her lifts, or locking the doors at night.
Also seeing more of less immediate family - aunts, cousins etc, I normally only see at Occasions.

4. Friends - I've missed seeing people true, but when I do see them (well, when they come to see me ;p) I have more time to spend with them than I would have had otherwise. Instead of rushing about Doing Stuff and Going Places, we can just chill out and chat, read, watch dvds (hmm wet mr darcy). And drink fine wines of course ;)

4. Work - getting through a backlog of stuff that had been bothering me for a long time, but I could never get enough dedicated time to sort while in the office. Also NO MEETINGS!! How blissful is that? Very. That's how.
And, having worked in the same place doing mostly the same thing for SO long, a break is great and has reminded me I do actually *like* my job and can do it well when I put my mind to it.

5. Presents! People sent presents! Books, dvds (still have yet to watch the bionic woman tho, must do that!) and, of course, the Jayne Hat! I like presents ;)

6. New car! Ok I didn't really want a new car, but now I'm getting one, it will be fun and shiny and NOT A CLOWN CAR just because it is automatic.

7. Challenges! Every Problem Is an Opportunity! And many other trite sounding self-help Solutions... I am becoming adept at figuring out ways round having to do everything on one leg with no free hands, eg. getting files from car to house this morning. Tricky, but doable ;p

All in all, it's not been so bad. Yes, I have missed out on a lot of stuff I had planned, but plans can be remade. I've been incredibly lucky really in family & friends who've looked after me and put a lot of effort into entertaining/amusing/distracting me.

Being forcibly slowed down isn't the disaster I'd have imagined if I'd known this was coming.

Mind you I still demand plenty of sympathy. BROKEN BONES! PINS!!

The only real, unfixable downside has been not being able to look after Ziggy, but then again luckily, it happened over the summer, when she'd be off in a field getting fat anyway. What happens next is trickier, but we'll sort something out.
