Back in work. YAY.

The funeral yesterday was sad, but good in a way. The priest doing it all obviously knew my uncle well and the whole sermon thing was very touching. Oddly, there was no family-orgainised Do after, but a crowd of us cousins and a few stray aunts/uncles headed off to a local hotel for a lunch & catching up session which soon dissolved into chaos and much giggling. I gave up trying not to fall apart after the following conversation -

Aunt M. 'everyone who came to talk to me at the church was at least NINETY! Like that quinn guy, one of those brothers!'
Uncle J. 'The Quinns aren't 90! Which one was it anyway? Because one of them is dead'.

Presumably the other one then...

It also brought to mind a game we used to play as kids, Count The Cousins, beacuse we could never work out quite how many we had - Dad was one of 9 and Mum one of 7, resulting in LOTS of relatives - and usually got a different number every time we tried.
Was trying to do it again last night and it's somewhere between 45 and 50. Around 47 I *think*, but I'm sure I've missed one or two... I may sit down some day soon and write it all down before I forget them all again. And of course now most of them have gone off and had kids - one is even a grandfather apparently - which complicates things further! Yay for big families!

The day ended very well after all that, with a surprise visit from a friend who'd got stranded by broken down ferries and needed a bed for the night, which naturally involved talking nonsense over alcohol til bedtime.
Am Sort Of moved back home, but the cats are still down at Mum's. Operation Cat Move may commence this weekend instead.

I just took 4 steps across the kitchen WITH NO CRUTCHES AT ALL!

*does a dance of triumph*

And now, painkillers.
