Good morning! and how are we all this fine monday?
I am surprisingly sleepy after a weekend of doing very little. Lots of watching telly (silly dancing and dull x-factor. Except for the Spanish Lady. HELO spanish lady!) and sitting about. Tho yesterday I did make a start at cleaning the house before [livejournal.com profile] reuss arrives this weekend. Unfortunately I started with the mountain of piled up post lying about the house, thinking that would take about an hour to sort.
In the end, it took nearly 5 hours and then I gave up, made dinner and went back to the telly ;p So will have to tackle actual cleaning tonight.

ION the bbc have a list of 50 favourite words There are some good ones there, but not mine, which is Trapezoidal. What's yours?

Mellifluous. Second favourite, mephitic.

Non-English: schraubenschluessel.

[identity profile] hellison.livejournal.com 2008-10-13 11:05 am (UTC)(link)
I've always like mellifluous. One of those words that sounds like what it means ;)

Mephitic is a new one on me, but also good.

My knowledge of German is pretty much non-existant, but that looks like it would be a very satisfying word to say!

Psychoful!

We're coming to NI for Christmas this year, so hope to see you then unless you can avoid us...

Oooh, HALO Spanish Lady also!

I have favourite words, but can think of none on the spot, so will comment again later once I remember.

However, can I take this glaringly obvious opportunity to mentioned one favourite word of mine... ;)

MOIST

rofl, good word!

how long will you be over for? The brother and family are coming home for christmas too (arriving boxing day I think) so it's all going to be a bit busy ;)

She was SMOKING HOT on teh show on sat. night, about the only thing that stood out - her and the last girl who had an amazing voice but had been stuck into this awful skintight dress that really didn't do her any favours (despite also being quite braw ;p)

ps HATE HATE HATE

*sulks*

A week nearly. Coming on the Tuesday before and leaving the Saturday.

Braw?

[identity profile] caramel-betty.livejournal.com 2008-10-13 11:45 am (UTC)(link)
Mine's pretty non-existent, having stopped studying it at 14 and having had a rubbish teacher up to then. However, the word does feel great when you say it.

[identity profile] fragglechick.livejournal.com 2008-10-13 12:03 pm (UTC)(link)
*leaps into action*

Braw = very attractive person, possibly someone you 'would'. :)

*beams proudly*

Tis a scottish term that is. I've infected them all with my nonsense! (and I'm not even really properly scottish)

NUCTYRATUN is today's favourite word

This can also be spelt MICTURATION if one bothers with 'using the right keys' and all that hufflepuffle.

[identity profile] thesme-01.livejournal.com 2008-10-13 12:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Your arse is mephitic.

[identity profile] hellison.livejournal.com 2008-10-13 02:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah, we shall have to see ;) tues. is our last day at work, so there'll be Drinks after, then wed (xmas eve) i'll be heading to dpk, not sure what's happening after that, expect the canadians all arrive boxing day! We shall see!

[identity profile] hellison.livejournal.com 2008-10-13 02:16 pm (UTC)(link)
I quite like the sound of NUCTYRATUN too tho :p

[identity profile] jin-shei.livejournal.com 2008-10-13 02:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Aha! I wondered if it was NI slang that had slipped me by!

[identity profile] repton-infinity.livejournal.com 2008-10-13 09:24 pm (UTC)(link)
"sesquipedalian" looks like it should mean "person with one and a half feet"...

I've been reading a couple of Joan Aiken's Dido Twite novels. There's some lovely words in there: hankersniffle (a handkerchief), tootlepipe (something like a flute), pictclobber (some kind of weapon).

Heh -- "Petrichor - the sweet smell of rain on dry earth.". Someone tell Terry :-)

[identity profile] being-here.livejournal.com 2008-10-14 06:44 am (UTC)(link)
Onomatopoeic

Always loved that word.

[identity profile] thesme-01.livejournal.com 2008-10-14 09:02 am (UTC)(link)
I micturate on your mephitic arse.

*ponders*

Phoarr!

[identity profile] hellison.livejournal.com 2008-10-14 09:59 am (UTC)(link)
I think, given the CIRCUMSTANCES, it is YOUR arse that is Mephitic these days!

[identity profile] hellison.livejournal.com 2008-10-14 10:00 am (UTC)(link)
rofl, i like pictclobber. Very... descriptive!

[identity profile] hellison.livejournal.com 2008-10-14 10:01 am (UTC)(link)
I like it too, but i can never remember how to spell it ;p

[identity profile] thesme-01.livejournal.com 2008-10-14 10:04 am (UTC)(link)
maybe but that doesn't rule out your arse from the mephitic realms you know.
