In which I am Resolved

Today, I have been mostly pondering Resolutions. Has anyone made any this year (most of my flist seems more taken up with New Who atm )? Do you regularly make them? Does anyone *keep* them?

My only Plan/ Resolution for this year is Be More Active. I no longer have the ankle excuse for sloth, but it's got to be habit, a habit I now hope to break.

This is helped by D. phoning yesterday to say he's not sending Ziggy back to the girl who was looking after her, so I'll be back to riding/mucking out etc 2 nights a week to start with. In two minds whether to keep up the lessons once a week as well. Probably should for now.

Also cleared livingroom and even washed the floor sat. so the Wii-fit is out again (having been ignored for the last few months), to add to the weekly Pilates stretching/toning.

Finally getting the train to work 3 times a week at least, which involves a 20 min walk there and back. And saving a lot of money on car parking & petrol.

All small, fairly simple steps to battle sloth and regain some sort of fitness/muscle tone. Also eating less crap. Which will all hopefully combine to get me back to a point I was at a few years ago, when I was actually quite happy with my size/shape/fitness, because right now, I am not happy about any of that.

Of course this won't be the first time I have Resolved to do something about it and not got very far, but, you never know. It could work! Can't hurt to try.

So in short, Be More Active. What's yours?

I don't make resolutions. Not really, anyway.

My tongue-in-cheek resolution is to NOT give up cider this year.

In reality, I think my resolution is to try to be open to whatever this year has in store for me.

Be More Active is also my one. I'm paying for a gym I hardly go to, this must be rectified!

[identity profile] thipe.livejournal.com 2009-01-05 12:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Cycle to work, once I actually have a cycle.
Stop smoking, which has been going since Christmas (mmm, extra monies) without many great lapses.

Aside from those (which don't really count, since I was doing them anyway), no idea. Does MOAR CIDER count as a resolution?

[identity profile] hellison.livejournal.com 2009-01-05 12:33 pm (UTC)(link)
That's a good one (the being open one ;p).

I have lots of things I'd like to do - clear the house, spend more time with people, travel more, but they're not really things I am Resolved on. Except the seeing people, and that's more dependant on time off work and stuff, otherwise, i'd be happily constantly flitting around you all like a cider-fuelled butterfly!

The sloth/inactivity (and accompanying increasing girth) is, however, one thing I currently do not like about myself at all, and something I can actually change. If I can keep motivation going.

[identity profile] hellison.livejournal.com 2009-01-05 12:39 pm (UTC)(link)
perhaps we should all Motivate each other! I always start off well, but lose momentum fairly quickly ;p Tho having the horse back should help.

the secondary goal of Eating Less Crap is always a trickier one ;p

[identity profile] hellison.livejournal.com 2009-01-05 12:40 pm (UTC)(link)
I think MOAR CIDER is more a way of life than a resolution ;p

Good luck with the smoking tho, that's a tough one!

when do you get your work cycle then?

[identity profile] thipe.livejournal.com 2009-01-05 12:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Are you sure it's not a lifestyle choice?

Work cycle should be within the next few weeks I guess... depends on delivery.

[identity profile] hellison.livejournal.com 2009-01-05 12:54 pm (UTC)(link)
ahh, yes, Lifestyle Choice seems the most apt ;p

[identity profile] lazy-hoor.livejournal.com 2009-01-05 01:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Good plan.

I need motivation to go to the gym, not booze this month, save money, and give up smoking.

[identity profile] thipe.livejournal.com 2009-01-05 01:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Much like the smoking jacket and fez

[identity profile] being-here.livejournal.com 2009-01-05 01:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Dance more, write more, eat more fruit and veg, sort out clothes, finish some stuff on house. Mostly stuff I was trying to do anyway!

[identity profile] thesme-01.livejournal.com 2009-01-05 01:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Resolutions are bad for my inside head.

But I can always point to the not smok0ring and be smug.
?

[identity profile] hellison.livejournal.com 2009-01-05 01:22 pm (UTC)(link)
that's a lot for one month! I can barely cope with just Moving About More ;p

I did spy this on TLL - http://www.timeshealth.co.uk/ - it lets you list friends as 'motivators' and they get weekly emails on your progress. Presumably so they can prod you if you're not making any ;p

[identity profile] hellison.livejournal.com 2009-01-05 01:25 pm (UTC)(link)
See, this is why I pick one. If I tried all those, I'd end up doing none of them!

[identity profile] lazy-hoor.livejournal.com 2009-01-05 01:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Ehm, do you want to be my Ms Motivator?

[identity profile] hellison.livejournal.com 2009-01-05 01:30 pm (UTC)(link)
ooh that is a something to be very smug about! I have discovered that if I list Several Things to Resolute, I end up doing none of them and feeling crap.

However if I pick one - and pick on thing that is bugging me AND i can change fairly easily, it will work. Maybe.

I figure going for 'getting of my arse a bit' is more likely to succeed than 'get fitter, get tidier, get thinner, get out more, get... ' meh, i'm exhausted just thinking aobut all that ;p

[identity profile] hellison.livejournal.com 2009-01-05 01:32 pm (UTC)(link)
heh sure, do you have my gmail address? probalby best to use that one ;)

[identity profile] adelpha.livejournal.com 2009-01-05 01:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Not resolutions, as such, but things I'd like to do this year... Get fitter, sort my head out, change job.

The first one's off to a slow start, due to lurgy. Gym soon, though.

[identity profile] being-here.livejournal.com 2009-01-05 01:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Dancing is 20 minutes a day. Fruit is one extra apple, and swapping my lunch for veg soup, clothes would be an afternoon at most if I could be bothered to move at all today. The writing is the only really big thing and so far I have managed it each day. Ok. That's five days, but i'm trying to build it as a habit so it becomes easier to do. Oddly it's helping with the panic a lot, so worth continuing.

[identity profile] thipe.livejournal.com 2009-01-05 01:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Doesn't that necessitate a dayglo lycra body suit?

[identity profile] hellison.livejournal.com 2009-01-05 02:03 pm (UTC)(link)
woo, that's good on the writing! i'm trying to make the Being Active into a habit (it used to be!) so I can replace the v. bad habit of collapsing on teh sofa when i get in and not moving again til bedtime.

[identity profile] hellison.livejournal.com 2009-01-05 02:06 pm (UTC)(link)
exercise during lurgy attacks is generally the furthest thing from my mind! All good aims tho ;)

[identity profile] hellison.livejournal.com 2009-01-05 02:06 pm (UTC)(link)
I really hope not!

[identity profile] lazy-hoor.livejournal.com 2009-01-05 02:16 pm (UTC)(link)
I do all my exercise in my mohair gimp suit.

[identity profile] thipe.livejournal.com 2009-01-05 03:06 pm (UTC)(link)
are you sure you're not tempted by something like:

[identity profile] thesme-01.livejournal.com 2009-01-05 03:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Isn't that a bit Swety?

uh.

*rubs thighs*

[identity profile] thesme-01.livejournal.com 2009-01-05 03:23 pm (UTC)(link)
DUDE. That's a good resolution.

I resolve to write more novellas.

[identity profile] adelpha.livejournal.com 2009-01-05 03:28 pm (UTC)(link)
I think it's either those, or start looking for padded wallpaper :P

[identity profile] hellison.livejournal.com 2009-01-05 03:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh you should definitely do that! moar Literature!

[identity profile] hellison.livejournal.com 2009-01-05 04:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, B&Q do have a sale on...

[identity profile] repton-infinity.livejournal.com 2009-01-05 06:48 pm (UTC)(link)
The new year's party I was at had a resolution lucky dip: everyone writes one, they go into a hat, then you draw yours out. I got "learn to dance", which is something my gf has been bugging me about, so who knows :-) And much cleaner than _some_ of the resolutions in the hat..

[identity profile] hellison.livejournal.com 2009-01-06 10:31 am (UTC)(link)
That's an interesting - and potentially dangerous way to do it! You got off pretty lightly there ;)

I find tequila helps with dancing (see icon). Tho, possibly in a very loose sense of the word...
