After my great domestic failures on sunday, I did much better yesterday. Had the day off, and a lovely sunny day too, so after clearing up the mess made by the defrosting freezer (so. much. water), did a fair bit of other Household Cleaning. I even cleaned the windows! And not just because the finally having the sun out made them look really really bad ;p

Gardener George was also working hard and has pretty much finished the new patio, so yesterday evening I bought some plants for the beds round it. Once I have those sorted and the herb patch weeded/tidied up, I shall post photos. Now I just need to get a wee table & chairs and I can enjoy Pimms on the Patio of an evening. If the good weather stays...

He is also making me a washing line! Finally! It is possibly very sad that I am quite excited by the prospect of a washing line, but it's much nicer (and cheaper ;p) than buying a dryer or having the heating on mid summer just to have dry clothes. So, yay!

Other than that, very little news. Quiet weekend spend hanging out with family or on teh sofa with tasty cider.
Also been reading quite a lot of kate harding and similar blogs, which are v. interesting, articulate a lot of things I had been thinking anyway and having a dual effect of making me increasingly annoyed at a society/culture which regards my body as The Wrong Shape and thinks I should be ashamed of it and should be constantly struggling to fix that, while at the same time helping me care a lot less that I don't fit the Ideal (mind you, who DOES fit it these days?) and shutting up the inner monologue that also tells me it's wrong, it's horrible and I *should* be struggling harder to Fit The Mould.
Bollocks to that I say ;)

Hurrah for Kate Harding, indeed!

No woman fits the ideal; if you're not too fat, you're too thin. It's like Eddie Izzard's perfect shower setting... between there and there.

Well yes, no-one can quite match the Ideal - and if you're the right size, you're not tanned enough (or the wrong colour to start with, but that's getting into an entirely different rant!) or haven't your hair coloured (cover those greys!), or have lines or haven't shaved in all the right places...
Actually there's one ad that really bugs me atm for either a razor or some cream or other that starts 'when you want to feel more feminine' Because of course having HAIR on your body is totally unfeminine and GROSS. Bah.

Sometimes I'm oh so very happy that I don't watch TV often. I see so much less adverts to get annoyed with this way.

Grey hairs though...? :p
