(no subject)

Day has ended FINE, got degree certificate and tho didn't get to ride, got to chase horses over jumps and didn't get too drenched in the process.

However, on the way home, caught the news and... WTF? WHAT?

Martin McGuinness for president

WHAT? How would that even... WHAT? REALLY?

About the only good side I can see about it is that it must REALLY sicken Gerry, who surely had that post earmarked for himself.

He couldn't possibly win, even if he managed to get nominated.
Could he?

Whut?

He's slightly less loathsome than Gay Mitchell, I'll say that much.

It's bizarre! He can't win (really? he can't, surely?) but presumably would have to give up DFM at least for campaigning and possibly for good?

v. strange move all round really

I no longer understand the world. At all.

The whole thing is breaking my brains

Hang on.

If he was born in Northern Ireland, he's not a native of the Republic of Ireland. The Internet says so! That being the case, how can he stand for President? Or is there no requirement of nativity there?

We get dual nationality, due to the republic's constitutional claim on the North - I have a an Irish passport ;)

Ah, right. Looks like some of those Venn diagrams showing how the British Isles relate to each other need some more work...
