Hotels in and around Heathrow seem quite booked up for next wed night (obviously they heard I was coming ;p). In fact the only hotel that some sites are offering is St. Giles...

However, there is always the option of staying near Paddington (zippy heathrow express) or pretty much anywhere on the Picadilly line, so all is still well. I'm not hugely bothered either way, so where suits people - is somewhere more central handier? I'll probably go Somewhere to potter about in the afternoon til you all get out of work anyway ;)

And who is coming? So far I think we have Reuss (& mr reuss?), Dasquian, Malvino, Nou, Kelemvor and Adelpha. And maybe Caramel_betty? (sorry, can't be arsed doing the lj user thing for everyone ;p)

Answers on a postcard comment please, I'll need to book somewhere pretty soon!

ETA What do people think of meeting up in the pub in Paddington Station suggested by [livejournal.com profile] nou? Looks pretty good, does a range of foods and beers. And strongbow ;p

It'd certainly be handy for getting trains home in various directions ;)

It's terminal 4, closed until next September; there's a bus between there and Hatton Cross instead. I think you'll be terminal 1 on the way in and terminal 3 on the way out though, so you shouldn't have a problem.

As for location, I'll be coming in via Victoria so zone 1 suits me too. A few suggestions follow - all of these serve food in the evenings and have been in the Good Beer Guide and serve at least one (not necessarily real) cider.

  • Buckingham Arms in Westminster - will be very full until around 8pm and then empty, but not with braying city types, more the slightly older crowd.
  • Calthorpe Arms near King's Cross - possibly a bit out of the way, but it's guaranteed to be empty of all but two or three locals - may even be a bit too quiet. Food can be a bit variable but it's edible.
  • The Lamb in Holborn - better quality but pricier food, also will be crowded at least early on and possibly later too.
  • Mad Bishop and Bear - this pub is actually in Paddington Station, which might be convenient. It's pretty good.
  • Star of Belgravia - a good pub but tricky to find for the first time if you have no A-Z (could get people to print out the streetmap page and the directions here though).

There's also Chimes the cider place near Victoria, but it's a little pricy and doesn't really have much for non-cider-drinkers. And I always get lost on the way back to the station.

Ooh thanks! I think dragging everyone to a cider pub would be a tad self-indulgent (maybe next time...).

The pub in Paddington might work as a good meeting up place and the food part would be handy for people coming from work. We could always move on. Or not, since again, handy for people heading home in various directions.
