Since my previous choice was, apparently, too well known ;p

V. hard to chose one, but this is one I loved so much when I was Young that my Best Friend Lisa stole the book it was in from the school library at, according to the inscription, exactly 11.35pm on Friday 19th Dec 1989 and gave it to me for Christmas. I had completely forgotten she'd done that.

silently if,out of not knowable
night's ustmost nothing,wanders a little guess
(only which is this world)more my life does
not leap than with the mystery your smile

sings or if(spiralling as luminous
they climb oblivion)voices who are dreams,
less into heaven certainly earth swims
than each my deeper death becoms your kiss

losing through you what seemed myself,i find
selves unimaginably mine;beyond
sorrow's own joys and hoping's very fears

yours is the light by which my spirit's born:
yours is the darkness of my soul's return
-you are my sun,my moon, and all my stars

I don't think I ever worked out the first verse entirely.

Well they don't come much more obscure than one you wrote yourself ;p

After a suggestion from [livejournal.com profile] malvino that I make up a poem from office literature, since I had no pome books to hand, I created this, from book titles I could see from my desk - with no cheating to find interesting ones either, which is why it's a bit heavy on gardens ;p

Ode To Books I Can See From My Desk

Ireland, the Inner Island!
why hide behind Heraldry, Pagentry and Social Display?
look beyond The Papered Wall, Discover Gardening!
where Old Gardeners protect the Natural Woodlands From Folly,
as they rise above the Architecture of Industry.

Elsewhere Anglo-Norman Warfare rages amid
Italian Gardens of the Renaissance, mocking
The Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire

And The Modern Antiquarian abandons Marquetry for River Craft
to bear him down The Warrenpoint Branch
To Coalport.

It is actually quite Poignant, since as I was Composing it, I discovered that this weekend they are moving our v. lovely (if rather odd) library off up to some back room somewhere to make more room for desks.

I will miss it :/

ION this is very nice champagne.
