OK, is this just a Belfast thing, or is it normal to find yourself discussing theology with taxi drivers at 5am ish?

Seriously, at least 3 times I was nearly out of the car and then we'd be back to Confession and can priests *really* absolve sins. And stuff. And can the Devil really affect your daily life?

I DON'T KNOW, I'm just very drunk and trying to GET HOME.

So... does this happen anywhere else?

Yes. Though I might be the one who starts it. And the taxi drivers round us tend to be Muslim.

"Keep driving like this, and you'll be able to ask him!"

A friend on holiday in Turkey once got into trouble with a taxi driver. Said friend is Iranian, but not at all religious. They were in the taxi when the call to prayer sounded. Being a little Worse for Drink, he started singing along... The taxi driver was absolutely incensed, and they had to pay him extra to continue the journey. When they got to their destination, the driver looked at my friend and said, "You know what these words mean and yet you mock them? You DISGUST me!" And drove off.

I don't believe I've ever had a theological debate on any form of public transport. Or with strangers in real life, for that matter.

Dublin!

Thinking of the taxi driver pulling over for a quick pray on the way to visit my mum in the hospital.
And the bizarre anthropological discussions at 4am yeah.
