Technically, just now, NI has no real government. We have a pretend assembly who sit around Not Talking to each other and fighting. So for day to day stuff, it's the councils running stuff really.

We're about to get a BIG rates hike - probably about 30%, possibly more. And we're going to get water charges, based on house value *not* what you might actually use. So, I wonder, what is my council doing to earn all of this new extra monies?

Arguing over how many days a year they can fly the Union flag
Money well spent, I think you'll agree. Now, if you'll excuse me, I must go *headdesk* for a bit.

Right, now on to matters of actual importance. [livejournal.com profile] tiquetoque DO YOU HAVE BBC? Tents and campfires and songs and people are All Very Well, but DR WHO is on. I hope you have made arrangements for this.

Whenever I feel glum, annoyed or down right pissed off about living in the Republic of Ireland, I can always cheer myself up by thinking that at least I don't have to contend with that sort of bollox. Shady dealing and corruption I can just about handle, Nordie issues I can't.

Still, you've decent roads up there.

See who the Doc's new assistant is?

I know. And it always clashed with the premiership games they suddenly decided to show on Saturday evenings, *sigh*

I can heartily recommend you join uknova - it's a bittorrent site and they always have doc episodes on. Actually most bittorrent sites do.

UK Nova are totally fantastic, except that I have to leave my computer on uploading nuns for the whole week I'm gone at Tentmeet ... (where is my taxi dammit?)

Ar well, yes, there's always Cjavan

Louth is vastly improved recently. And Monaghan. And Donegal.

Those are the routes I use.

Once we bounced so much going over potholes that I nearly banged my head off the roof of the bus.

County Cavan - the only route I'm really familiar with. *cry*

I always love the point in the road from Belfast to Sligo where you briefly go thro cyaaaavan and you can tell INSTANTLY as soon as you enter and leave it because of the roads :p

I wonder if there's anywhere in the world that has worse roads than Cavan? I doubt it...

mongolia! the tarmac kind of stops about an hour out of ulan bator. however the roads continue. this is apparently on ALL the roads - not just the wee back roads.

(i realise this may not be casting cavan in a good light...)
