Books, books everywhere. EVERYWHERE.
Jul. 17th, 2011 10:43 pmIn an a fit of madness/boredom, and because of the ENDLESS RAIN this weekend, I have begun The Clearing of The Attic. This is mainly so that I have room for Sean Bean the Moving Of The Excess Stuff and Books from the living room can commence at some point in the future...
The secret bedroom/attic is Full Of Stuff. Mainly books. endless boxes and bags full of books. Often the SAME books. So far I have uncovered
3 Lord of the Rings,
3 Good Omens,
FOUR Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy (3 single copies, one omnibus with the rest)
& divers duplicate Pratchetts and Heyers. Also many unread books - the newly dedicated To Read Shelf in the bedroom is now stacked nearly double, which I am now having to try really hard to ignore until the more clearing is done.
There are still manymany Bags of Stuff (mostly clothes destined for charity I think) and Boxes of Stuff and Books to go through, some of which have been there since I moved in. May take photos tomorrow to document the extent of the Stuff. I may have to be more ruthless with the throwing out/passing on too, something I have never been good at.
So, does anyone want a copy of Good Omens or H2G2? The LoTR are all staying because one is my childhood copy (no covers and probably a few pages of appendix missing from the back), one is a copy I was given as an 18th b'day present and the 3rd is one I picked up recently because it is the same as the childhood copy, only with covers and pages intact. This makes perfect sense to me, so stop judging ;p
I REALLY need to get better at getting rid of stuff (and books. Mostly books).
I ALSO found, amid boxes of old letters, cards and Important Things, many of which I can no longer remember what was Important about them in the first place, a bundle of Angsty Teen Pomes. Oh dear god. So full of No-one Understands Me and Woe and hormones. Thankfully, not all by me, some lovely work by one Ms Thesme too, including one seminal piece in which love seems to be a fish (& which is STILL better than my cringetastic efforts ;p). Naturally phoned her and recited this to her voicemail as a Special Treat.
So far have resisted temptation to give up clearing and spend hours reading old letters etc, but not sure how long this resolve will last.
