This weeks Thrilling Installment!
Nov. 6th, 2007 04:01 pmBack from physio, it was much more positive. Will put details under cut below.
However this week's Random Hellison Fact - apparently I am better at walking backwards than walking forwards!
Went much better this week! She says I have done well with putting weight on etc and is adjusting how she's getting me to walk to suit me and my wonky leg.
I have to keep leaning weight over on to my leg, she had me doing this in all different directions (sideways, forwards and back. Thie was Bloody Painful, but by the end I was leaning right over on to it without holding onto the bars OR her.
She also had me walk with one hand on the bars and the other round her shoulder so she could pull me over onto the Bad Leg as I walked. Which was again painful and rather unnerving, but I did it.
Then I had to stand on a sort of inflated cushion thingy (not the spikey one this week thankfully!) and try to balance. This was Very Hard, but I have to practice at home by standing on a cushion and trying to balance, because the whole fracture and not walking on it means you can lose your sense of balance and go over on it very easily on any kind of uneven surface.
The RSD - skin on my foot is still very sensitive so I have to do lots of barefoot walking on carpet and other surfaces. For the top of the foot I have to rub it with various textures of stuff ( NO THESME. Whatever you are thinking, NO.), like wool and so on.
Over all though, she said I'd come on quite a bit since last week and I just have to keep working it, and trying to overcome the mental block - which gets easier when I've done stuff there that does not result in disaster. I am apparently doing all the right things and just have to keep it up! Hurrah!
For now, I have ice on it and painkillers and all is well.
