Physio, yet again
Jan. 7th, 2008 02:29 pmQuite a long break from it this time round, thanks to Christmas! But all seems to be going well
Walked in with No Crutch, provoking much joy from the physio lady. Then she made me walk around with no shoes and no crutch and said that although that's getting much better, there's still not enough actual movement in the joint. So she did the Very Painful Poking to try and loosen it up a bit. OW.
Then it was onto the parallel bars (heh, i sound like a gymnast ;p) for Walking Practice - backwards, forwards and, as a variation, sideways, crossing legs over. This was harder than I'd expected and so have to practice this at home.
Followed this with Balancing Practice on the wobbly cushion thing - apparently you can get them in TK Maxx so have to go get one to use at home, but this has improved too, I even managed to let go of the bars!
Further impressed physio lady by standing one leg without holding anything for a count of 10 before losing balance - last time, I couldn't even let go of the bars.
Next, because I said I still needed the crutch outside to get up and down kerbs/steps etc, it was Step Practice. Getting up and down a step forwards (not so bad), sideways (tricky, but ok) and backwards (I CAAAAN'T). That was really difficult, apparently partly to do with the lack of balance, because you rely on vision much more and obviously, I couldn't see the step behind me.
So homework for the next 2 weeks is on and off a step, 20 times in each direction, twice a day, until I can do it without a crutch or holding on.
Most importantly tho, she said I can go back to pilates! SUCCESS!
So will start that again thursday, which is great, because my back has been really seizing up of late (and yes,
thesme_01, I will go see the osteopath too!).
Also have been pondering getting an exercise bike type thing in the sales, to build up some leg muscles before I try riding again and provide some form of exercise til I can get out and about more. Or ooh I could get the fake horse thingy! I could even wear my hat and boots like the crazy lady on the website ;p
