Bah.

Today, I am Very Very sleepy. I do not want to be at work. I want to be in bed, either asleep or reading The Graveyard book.

I most especially do NOT want to be working in the Office of Eternal Stench; it's a charming place to be these days.
You see, about a month ago, an electrian guy working in the Big Meter Cupboard at the back of the room noticed Traces Of Rat. Someone else also saw rats running about the carpark, which the big door from our office opens on to (EEEEEEEEE).

So Pest Control came and, Very Cunningly* put down poison. NOT traps. Poison.
Rat(s) get poison, then crawl into Somewhere Inaccessible to Die.

Thus we had the scent of Decomposing Rat for a while. So they got air fresheners to cover that up (which mostly failed). Then, after a few weeks we got the Plague of Flies, so they sprayed pesticide everywhere. Which worked for a week or so, until Moar Flies hatched and they had to come back over the weekend.

So this morning, we are working in a delightful combination of Pesticide layered with Synthetic Cinnamon & Pine Freshness, with an stong underlying note of Decomposing Rat. It's like BPAL gone horribly horribly wrong.

Thesme probably smelt better than this even after the weeks of no bathing :/

I WANT TO GO HOME.

ME TOO! :(

Bits of me feel dead!

But at least I don't smell....

my brain definitely feels dead, can't think straight today at all. NEED MOAR SLEEP. And lots of water. except i had to throw out my glass for water drinking because it was sitting out over the weekend when they sprayed the fly killing stuff everywhere...

urgh jaysus, and have they not done anything to actually find the corpses?

[identity profile] hellison.livejournal.com 2008-11-03 03:24 pm (UTC)(link)
apparently they can't get at them. Not that they seem to have actually tried. or it's not rats at all its the toilets (OH NO IT ISN'T). Or it's all in our heads (why yes we ARE all mass hallucinating the waves of flies).

my eyes are watery and nose is stingy and everyone is sneezing. And it's too cold to leave the doors open (plus there may still be non-decomponsing rats out there, so we can't anyway). It's GREAT.

If that's what's going on you are all within your rights to go home, you know...

going to head off early anyway I think. Hopefully the flykiller smell will have at least dissipated by tomorrow.

poor wee dead ratli---

er, i mean. also i am sympathetic re: the smell and chemicals! i can't even deal with air freshener and have banned it from the office!

[identity profile] hellison.livejournal.com 2008-11-03 10:54 pm (UTC)(link)
yeah, i'm really not a fan of air freshener but it WAS an improvement on the dead animal aroma. Not much of a one, but still ;p

That sounds like a little slice of hell. Working in an office that's about three times hotter than the sun was bad enough with all the special BO smells. But pine fresh decomposing rat with a cheeky hint of insecticide sounds amazingly bad.

Oh it's very special to work in. Thankfully the insecticide seems to have settled a bit today, so its mostly just the horrible air fresheners wafting around.

And the flies of course, who don't seem to have been greatly bothered by all the insecticide this time round...
