Yep, it's night 2! Altho due to being out on the horse (and not getting rained on!) I have missed the first installment tonight, so we've skipped about 6 or 7 roses. Bah. I hope they were good ones!

Anyway rose... 24, i think. Perth! Called Rose too. Cunning! ooh and a big train on her dress, fancy! jesus Gay Burn, does that man never actually age? I swear he's looked like that since I was a kid. But back to rose! She's a smart one! Biochemistry, training to be doctor. In Lady Medicine. Obs Gyn, etc. Heh her party trick was going to be suturing Ray but they wouldn't let her ;p and they've set up a ... family reunion. Aww. And her party piece... singing. bah. oooh a Very good singer tho! I like this one!

25! Washington DC. Except she's from... fermanagh. And has got a very weird mixed accent now. Fermanagh pronunciation with american rhythms? Odd. She's not really coming across very well. In fact I hate to say it, but she is REALLY dull. So dull they've gone to her escort instead. Rofl, he gave her poteen. Maybe in the hope of livening her up. OH JESUS NO NOT THE TIN WHISTLE. Tho, at least it's not painful like last night's one.

26... Manchester. Except SHE'S from tyrone. They're sneaking in all over the place ;p Wearing... a big gold cape? and works in an irish bar. The TRAITOR. That is a very weird dress. Big on the GAA tho, which should get her points. Also charity work.

27 Kerry ! she'll be popular. much better dress than manchester too! Lovely hair too ;p And her brother won...a farming prize? Primary school teacher too, points all round here. And a big smiley boyfriend. and another singer by the sounds of it :/ MOAR DANCING PLZ

28 - Yorkshire! learning irish at uni too, that'll get points. And in a dress that... clingy, she probably should have worn a bra ;p MATH NOT MATS. She's very insistant on that. hahah 'its quite complicated' 'so we'll skip on then' good on you ray ;p The poor bf looks terrified. Oh noes ray, not the DINGLE controversy! oooh and teh Rose blames tralee. OOH but she's going to Dance, hoik up the skirts girl and off you go! hehehe ray 'you're funny'
tuck it into your knickers girl. Tho she's getting some height on the leaps. REALLY should have worn a bra.

ad break time!

29, tipperary! love the colour of her dress. Another that could do with a bit more... banger support. Where is gok wan when these ladies need him? Long convoluted twin story. I think her twin is actually prettier ;p Another not terribly interesting one. Seems a bit nervous actually, which very few of them have. Singing Paulo Nutini song? Ray ain't a judge ;p Not bad, but a bit... meh.

30! S. Australia! Aww she's pretty, looks very young and another wearing a weddingesque dress ;p Lots of chat about oz govt. recession beating measures? Fun times... free money for all! And a lecture on mental health. Cheery stuff! I think Ray is running out of steam a bit at this point. No party piece :/

31, london! (kinda glad a tthis point i missed a few of them earlier ;p) oooh lovely necklace too. (NEWBRIDGE SILVER WHY DO YOU TAUNT ME SO??). And she was a ... very odd tv presenter in japan? Pretending to swim? WTF? Being a weather presenter to irish and uk mobile phones? Wow ;p And SMRT too, scholarship to TCD. AND a marathon runner. And climbed kilimanjaro (sp?). She's busy. Jesus the BF isn't a looker. Fine set of ears on him ;p No party piece tho! poor show

32, dublin! LAST ONE. In a dress so tight she can hardly walk, so I don't think she'll be dancing. Bah. And a big spiel about how important the Rose of Tralee is. Bollocks ;p ooh a lawyer. They're a SMRT bunch really. But... a spiel for her law firm? Representing the banks?? that'll not win her points these days !
Oh god singing 'memory'. Not to bad. but still. TOO MANY SINGERS NOT ENOUGH DANCERS!

So that's the lot. Thank god. THIRTY TWO of them. Who will win??

ANd we're back with the results. Tho they have to drag it out, naturally. Who will win? 50th one this year too. aww here's last years. ANd there she goes again cos the band didn't play her own ;p
Here she comes again, with a bit of music ! hurrah! and a dance! ooh she has my (this year) favourite necklace on too. She's had a busy year! S. africa, the white house, dubai, sydney... and being 'a socially appropriate role model' so also kenya and chernobyl too. and thanking... everyone she's every met over the last year.

Montage of last nights to remind us! ooh i missed a dancer! bugger. In COWBOY boots! I wish I'd seen her. Aww germany gets a big cheer, I did like her ;) hehe and crazy crazy new zealand. AAnd Cork, getting another big cheer, I did like Cork, not just cos she's Notte Skinny either ;p

ANd here come the whole lot of them to line up and seee who's won! Hehe the WAVING. This bit is pure Lovely Girls ;p
Jesus Ray could you drag it out any further. OOh here's the envelope!! And a dull speech from Some Organiser Bloke. Blah blah blah WHO WON??
'and finally can i just say...' NO SHUT UP AND GET ON WITH IT!! Who gets the enormous sparkly crown this year (it is Very Tall)??

'and finally' AGAIN. STFU. pushing the website WHICH IS DOWN and has been since yesterday. Ooh he's done, and Ray has the envelope! And he's going to draaaaag it out with the Traditional Naming Of the Roses as Ray goes down the line... Got them all! and MOAR Waffle.

JUST OPEN THE ENVELOPE FFS.
ANd the winner is...

LONDON. Wow. Didn't really see that coming. Hmm. Ah well, Go you london. And on goes the Very Tall Crown and the big vase thing. The end is always a bit of an anticlimax, no-one seems sure what is happening ;p And here's the Man to Sing The Song and everyone swaying. AWW. etc.

So, Rose of Tralee party next year?

It is AWESEOME! last night, there was a snake! Too much singing this year, not enough hoiking up the frocks and dancing a jig ;p

Uh, what on earth are you watching?

The rose of tralee! I'd link to the website, but it seems to be down ;p There is an explanation of sorts on last night's post (it goes on over 2 nights), but really, it has to be seen to be believed. Think Fr Ted's Lovely Girls contest on a massive budget ;)

Ah right, so probably the inspiration for it.
So is it compered by a slightly disreputable priest?

Date: 2009-08-26 10:25 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] hellison.livejournal.com
oh totally the inspiration for it ;p

It was compared for many many years by Gay Burn, who is the next best thing really, these days it's Ray D'arcy, who used to do kids tv and now does morning radio. Manages not to sleaze at the Roses, and mostly gets the piss taken out him hugely by them.

Ah, I remember when Gay Burn's show used to be shown on C4 - quite why I don't know.

So why does Manchester get a look in? Is this not a purely Oirish affair?

Heh no, it is International; like the football team, you just have to be of Irish Descent. Tho quite a few of the 'international'ones were Irish girls who were just working/living abroad and went for the Tryouts (or however they pick them), which seems like a bit of a cheat !

I see, so if I follow the American model and I had bumped into someone whose grandfather had visited Dublin, therefore I'm true Irish and could thus enter.
Or is it like cricket or somesuch and it counts back to one's grandparents?

Date: 2009-08-29 12:11 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] hellison.livejournal.com
I think it counts back to grandparents; most of the foreign ones seemed to have at least one Irish parent tho, so it might be stricter than the cricket ;p

Date: 2009-08-29 01:37 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] failing-angel.livejournal.com
I don't think so, last time I checked you didn't need an Irish grandparent to play cricket ;p

ps you can probably catch the end here - http://www.rte.ie/live/ and see who wins!
