Yes, I still live. I mean to post a LOT. I just... never actually do it. You may have noticed this! I do also still read LJ, just mostly on the phone and commenting via phone is fiddly, so I *mean* to do it when i get home, then i forget and ... well, anyway. HI!
Life has been mostly work, horse, sleep, with occasional cider. Most of the evening seems taking up with driving to and from horse (about a 20 mile round trip). So, this weekend, we are moving the horse! Hurrah! to a much smaller place - essentially a couple of stables at the back of a very nice (and v. well off) lady's house. That is just over 5 minutes away! I shall have TIME and EVENINGS and all sorts of exciting things.
Other exciting things happening this week -
New bedroom! Decorator finally coming tomorrow to do all the papering and painting, then the new curtains will go up, then new carpet!!! and, hopefully soon after this, new wardrobes will arrive. YAY!
New Car!! it is all there waiting for me. Have to call to clear up details on picking it up because they phone to tell me on thurs. morning, and i was a bit out of it (for reasons to be explained below).
New saddle! existing saddle no longer fitted horse well. Went on epic quest via THREE different saddlers to try and get a 2nd hand leather one that suited both horse and self. Finally gave up and ordered a lovely Wintec Synthetic one. V. helpful saddler left me with a leather one on loan to use in the meantime.
Previous saddle was very much cut for jumping/hunting (more forward, big knee rolls to lean on) whereas loan saddle was more a General Purpose, lovely to ride in but felt a wee bit less secure over jumps. This became Very Important on wed. night, when at the end of a lesson that had been mostly flatwork and gone v. well, it was time to jump!
Jumps were not huge, instructor had laid out a course of 6, a few easy uprights (about 50/60cm), a spread (jump of 2 poles on slightly higher than the other) and finishing over a couple of barrels that often double as jump stands.
Went round grand, nice and steady, did a lovely smooth jump over the spread, which was the biggest/scariest one, so just the barrels to finish. Nice steady canter to them and instructor is counting down the strides (to help us get the strides right, she counts down the last 3 to the jump... 3, 2, 1 and you jump on one). So.
3, 2...ARRGGHHHH WHY ARE WE FLYING OMG
I CAN HANG ON
OOPS NO I CAN'T
ARRGH MY FOOT IS STUCK
OH NO IT ISN'T
THUD
Luckily! My foot came unstuck and I cleverly landed on my head rather that anything vital. According to the instructor, crazy horse took off a stride early (thus about 10 feet away from the SMALL jump) and soared about 5 feet in the air over it, I was totally unprepared, landed wrapped round her neck then pitched off sideways. Onto my head.
Once I had established i hadn't gone blind but rather somehow got my glasses rammed INSIDE the hat (still can't work that out), regained the ability to speak and stopped seeing double, things seemed all ok. Apparently I got back on the horse just for a walk about. I say apparently cos I don't actually remember this part. Nor repeatedly asking the others what had happpened. Got off again and tried leading horse back to stable. Was rapidly relieved of horse and made to sit down again due to bouncing off every wall I passed. It was then made very clear to me (probably more than once too) that I was under no circumstances driving myself home, I was being taken to A&E.
So, off we went, with me babbling nonsense the whole way (nothing new there tho), got poked at by the dr and pictures taken of my head, then told to go home and rest with painkillers. I had recovered enough by this time to ask if I should be worried about concussion, but told nope, painkillers and bed. I am still a tad dubious about this diagnosis.
(TL:DR - fell off horse onto head. nothing vital damaged)
Thursday, i was completely out of it. High as a kite! It was quite good fun really, got to lie in bed for most of the day and finally read 'I Shall Wear Midnight' (tho, should probably read it again as already I'm not sure what happened). Did go out to pick up the car and realise after about 2 mintues of driving, I probably really shouldn't BE driving, but managed to make it home and back to bed safely. At some point spoke to a Nice Man about the New Car (see above) but for some reason am not quite clear on the details, so will ring them back Monday to sort it out!
Friday, with a stiff neck and v. sore head, the obvious thing to do was load the car up with fizzy wine and treats, drive to Termonfeckin (just out Drogheda. it IS a real place) to see some lovely friends and hang out by the beach! Which, despite a rather wobbly drive down turned out to be a wonderful plan, especially when Saturday was a beautiful morning, so we had a pyjama party on the beach. And that's enough words, so I shall end on picture! (also, my head still hurts)
