So. I decided last night that 12.30 was a good time to start reading A Hat Full of Sky. Just a bit of it, to see how it starts.

Two hours later I finally managed to put it down, mostly because it was getting hard to focus on the words :p So tis good!

The younger witches reminded me a lot of some of the witches an the mud. Wanna-be wizzards without the staff :p More concerned with levels, techniques and step by step instructions on how exactly things Should Be Done than just trying it out to see what happens and (the horror) working it out for yourself.

Insert obligatory 'it weren't like that in my day' ramble here, belt, onions etc, and I'll stop now cos this wasn't meant to turn into a rant :p

Going to see H2G2 movie tonight, tho timing will be quite tight as I had planned to leave at 4 to get horse etc done but now we have a meeting with the accountant at 4.30, so he can explain to us this get-more-money scheme in detail, which still seems a tad dodgy to me. I suspect there will be much ranting and cursing and Ruining of His Life from Idiot Cow-orker if we decide not to do it. Oh waily waily waily.

heh well I'm already sleepy, so we'll see! I've heard some pretty good reports too tho, it seems to be producing mixed reactions so far.

Well, I'm the trad H2G2 fanatic who can still quote whole swathes of the original dialogue verbatim, ten years after I stopped listening to the radio series every night, so the hack job they did on it was almost calculated to grate on my nerves. Especially when half the film is new material. What impressed me was that [livejournal.com profile] sleetersoulfire, who's usually easy-going about this kind of this, hated it as well.

I shall reserve my more detailed vitriol for after you've seen it. :)

Usually with these things I can (just about) manage to seperate the film from the source and view them seperately, eg Judge Dredd and Constantine, both of which I enjoyed as films, but if I had viewed them as films of the originals I would have been screaming in fury at the screen.

Admittedly I did that anyway when JD took his helmet off in the film :p

Sooo... did you go? what did you think?

I tried the "just enjoy it as a film" thing, I really did, but that was why I ended up falling asleep. Hi ho. There's still the radio series.

I was reading the part with the sabbat on monday, on the train, surrounded by 14 year old schoolgirls on their way home and assigning them all names, was quite good fun. Then I moved on to:

"You're a stuck up bitch that'll end up fat with 8 kids"
"You're probably going to be prime minister, bad luck having to sit near these others"
"You're, you might be a boy actually,. Hard to tell under the makeup"
"You're standing on my foot, when the train jolts next time that'll change over and I'm heavier than you"
"You're a doormat who'll get beaten your whole life"
"You're obsessed with looking at yourself in the window, and you have a crappy haircut anyhow"
"You're flirting with me, grief, I'm legally old enough to be your father"

Should have said I was assiging them names from the book to start with, "You're like Tiffany" "you're annagrammer" etc.

Rofl, the joys of crowded train journeys ;p There are very few hells to compare with being trapped amid a gaggle of school girls.
