I've been reading thro posts, communities and so on (can't concentrate on work) and I have to say I am hugely impressed - but not really surprised - at the reactions.

There is a lot of 'They won't stop us' and 'why should we give in to the fear they want to create?' and practically no 'blow up all forners instantly!, though I'm sure thats out there.

It's extremely heartening to see there's no 'omg retreat to the bomb shelters and HIDE' and much more 'lets get this sorted out so we can get back to the cricket'.

Hmm. I may not be expressing this particularly well, but keep it up!
You might not beat them with bullets and bombs in return, but refusing to be cowed by these cowardly, horrific attacks is a huge victory in itself, and reduces them to what they really are - a pointless attempt to scare you into submission.

I went out at lunchtime to buy a hammer1. At the market (where I thought I might be able to get one), I heard the end of a conversation which went to the effect of "And they still let them in the country."

Grararagrgraraghagrgargargarghargraaaragrargraagrgrrgaragrh.

1 In times of terrorist attacks, it pays to have a hammer. Also, I want to finish putting some bookshelves together when I get home.

Yeah I know there's bound to be a load of that. Knee jerk reactions - and just general jerks.

It's more the general feeling of not letting the country grind to a halt in mass panic and terror I was thinking of

Well, people on the internet tend to think things through before lashing out.

If this is true of the bits of the Internet you hang out on, you are very, very lucky. :-)

We don't have to get it sorted to go out to the cricket, it's just carried on without any change (apart from the occasional announcement about numbers to ring if you need to), although I suspect someone will give condolences and appropriate words of sympathy and hope at the end of match speeches and people will surely be thinking about the victims and their families.

Heh that is kinda what I meant, I knew I wasn't expressing it very well. It was the carrying on without change bit I was aiming at, - the lack of 'OMG SHUT EVERYTHING DOWN' panic and instead going on as normal.

They're even running train service from King's Cross already. Pretty impressive stuff.
