In honour of the wonderful Ms Being_Here being certifed HEALTHY and NOT DYING (note, not SANE) we have decided to jointly create ART for our beloved nephew, Thipe, to cheer up his working day (since BH is off all day and I made an executive decison to take the afternoon off with her ;p)

So, ART FOR THIPE

Lately I seem to have posted mostly when things are a bit crap. however I have just had a very lovely weekend of watching hot dark angsty men with [livejournal.com profile] being_here, drinking cider pottering about on ziggy, hanging out with family, tidying up the house a bit then more hot angsty mens. h

In pictures my weekend went... )

After that, just to end the evening, the ever wonderful and resourceful [livejournal.com profile] thipe found THIS - videos of Aidan Turner as Rosetti, reading POMES. Watched til brain EXPLODED FROM HOT.

Damnit stupid embedding thing not working. Video of DEATH BY HOT here http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xgqgmu_dante-gabriel-rossetti-lovesight_creation

Had a wonderful night in Dublin last night in Castle Thesmington with Thesme, Mr Thesme Lazy_hoor, mollydot and of course, Special Guest, Fragglechick! A fine evening of wine, women and song ;p That somehow went on til 8 am this morning. Which was great, until i woke up again at half 10 and couldn't get back to sleep...

So. Very. Tired. Will do proper post when can brane again (so, mabye by march?). Possibly also with photos ;p
hellison: (xmas)
I have survived Xmas! Nothing went wrong! well apart from the mother having chest infection/flu, meaning I had to go down earlier than planned and thus more to and froing to feed cats/horses but otherwise all good!

On xmas day I even cooked VARIETIES of vegetables ! I made mashed spuds, roast spuds (hmmmm roasties NOMNOMNOM), roast parsnips/peppers in honey AND roast butternut squash, shallots and sweet potatoes. AFter all it is not a proper Irish xmas dinner if there are not 3 varieties of potato available!

The rest of the time was spent sleeping, drinking fizzy wine, and making endless cups of tea.
Got back home to COLD COLD house yesterday, but it evenutally warmed it, watched Pride and Prejudice (hmmm wet colin firth) and had a lovely long hot bath with new xmas bath stuff.

Today, liiiie in, lazy breakfast then up to attempt riding horse for the first time in over a month, as arena no longer looks like this...

It went better than expected too, horses were well behaved, and knackered after half an hour - which was good, cos so was I! and THAT was when we discovered the water was off (most of belfast is without water apparently) so we spent the next half an hour hauling buckets out of a well to fill big barrels for later...
Home for lunch now, then back up there to bring horses in, haul more water then collapse.
Work tomorrow = WOE, but on friday, heading to Teh LONDON to see Thipe! Hurrah!
hellison: (OMG leo)
So, it snowed. In Other News, AFV seems to have completely cleared up. The shattering exhaustion has gone too, which is nice!

This week I have mostly gone to work. Expect for Wed evening/thurs. morning which I spent with the young chap in the icon (First Nephew), who is over from Canada for a week or so with his mum. He is now 7 and Cool tho did very politely humour his Nana by mostly enjoying the trip to Santa. We spent the rest of the time fighing with remote control helicopters, playing LoTR top trumps (I even got to explain why some of the orcs had pointy ears like elves!), building lego spaceships and watching some Lord of the Rings. OOH and reading Roald Dahl.

And the...SNOWCOPOLYSE HIT!! OMG!!! etc!!!

Made it to work, actually got some xmas shopping done v. easily cos shops were all empty then, got sent home at half 2! Yay!
Except then I had to go sort the horses out, which meant returning to Narnia )

Got home, changed out of wet boots/jeans into cosy jammies, got snacks and ONLY THEN thought to check the fridge for cider. and oh. OH.

WAILY WAILY WAILY THERE WAS NONE OH NOES OH NOES OH NOES
But I was sure i could cope. I COULD COPE it would be FINE... til the internet STOPPED WORKING.

So. I donned Warm Clothes, Riding boots (long enough to forge through INCHES of snow) and not-quite-Yaktrax grippy things and womanfully forged a path down the Hill of Doom, the Ski Slopes of the Train Station (which you have to navigate to get through the Tunnel, or chance being mowed down by cars under the bridge) to make it to the Off Licence for precious cider and lovely fizzy wine. Then made it back UP same obstacles (grippy things quite good!) while carrying bag full of precious alcohol. JOY!!!
Have since enjoyed Wines, Popcorn and extended phone call with [livejournal.com profile] being_here while watching David Tennant... and now cider.

And one final snow picture, purely because the contrast between Fittingly Snow-covered Fir Tree with Less Fittingly snow covered Palm Trees amused me hugely this morning ;p

hellison: (eye)
It's a bit chilly out there, innit? For the past few days I have been mostly sleepy, negotiating increasingly icy driveway to stables, then sleeping again when I get home. Tho at least the weather means I don't have to feel too guilty about not riding, so silver linings, etc!

Aimed to go back to work this morning. Instead, slept thro alarm, woke up briefly at half 10, thought 'fuck it' and went back to sleep. Finally got up at lunchtime, de-iced car and made it to work, only to find out there'd been a power cut and the computers had been off all morning!
They did come back on, so managed to send a few emails and sort a few things out but by 4 oclock my head was spinning again so gave up. Got horses sorted on the way home, have had tasty dinner and now all I want to do is go back to sleeeeep.

Might try the half day thing again tomorrow if I'm still this knackered. As far as the rest of the AFV goes, it seems to have pretty much faded away - eye is closing again properly and almost have total movement back in my mouth (YAY! I hear you all cry). Face still v. tender tho - feels like I've been punched a few times, but apparently that is a Good Sign of nerves working again, or something.

I think I need a nap now. How you all doin' out there?

phew...

I THINK it's safe to say it now... but today has GONE WELL. NO mishaps. No disasters. No Random illnesses.

A lie in, a hot bath, lazing on the sofa, loong catch up phone calls, deflecting attempts by family to draw me out of the house. Didn't even have to go near the horse! Finally the day of Resting I have been aiming for since last weekend :)

Did get off to an Interesting start, when Gardner George called at 10 (on a saturday! is the man mad?) and somehow ended up standing out in the street in stripey pjs, fleece and ugg boots with Crazy Morning Frizz Hair & a hangover, being shown how the repair people messed up fixing his van after a bulldozer drove into it (!).
Even got invited *inside* the van to see the botched repair but declined, on the grounds that the chances of me stepping safely out of a van onto icy pavement would be low at the best of times, but this week, non-existant. Tho, as ms being_here kindly pointed out, the day may have ended up very differently if I had got in... (probably in A&E :p).

somehow it is 10pm and I have not left the house at all (van inspection aside) and I may go back to bed soon. Pure Bliss ;)
hellison: (cider)
I have had ... some hot port. An entire bottle of v. fine Pol Roget fizzy wine. A v. tasty baked spud lots of butter.
On teh telly, they are about to show last years xmas QI which features David Tennant in a purple velvet suit. I am about to open a tin of strongbow in anticipation of this visual feast.

Things are looking up!

ETA oh my David singing Auld Lang Syne, all scotchlike (sadly NOT in a tarty skirt :/)
also, cider

am actually looking forward to tomorrow's hangover, because at least i can Anticipate and Prepare for that. and spend all morning in bed nurturing it. The simple pleasures are often the best ;)
hellison: (arse piglets)
oh the fun i've had today!

get up, leave house at 9 to feed horses and put them out before going to work for the morning. Get to stables, SNOWCOPOLYSE starts (well, some snow), is also v. cold and all outdoor drinkers are frozen, so decide to leave horses in til lunchtime. Check stable drinkers, also frozen. Taps - all frozen. Hmm. there is a big bucket of water so divide between them and figure that will do for now.

Set off for work, still pretty much on time, thro SNOW. Traffic heavy. Heavy even for snow. Eventually crawling along, see flashing lights, perhaps accident?
Get closer. NO. they have chosen rush hour on a friday in the SNOW to do a tax disc check. YAY.
Realise with sudden sinking feeling that tax disc for new car has never arrived. I did MEAN to phone about it last week but, well, see previous posts...
Roll down window, try to explain lack of disc to v. cold, pissed off cop. He is Disbelieving and makes me pull over. Spend the next half an hour at the side of the road watching cars/lorries in front get clamped and get increasingly worried am about to get stranded IN THE BLOODY SNOW.
Ring car dealer, who are supposed to have sorted tax, they insist they posted it, but that as long as tax *book* arrived (which it did), all the cops will do is ring DVLA who will confirm.
Presumably this is what happened because eventually a bloke taps the windscreen and says 'you can go' and... that's that. Off i go. Not Amused At All.

Finally get to work, sort a couple of things out, then get v. apologetic call from car salesman who has FOUND THE FUCKING TAX DISC on his desk. Or somewhere. Damn world.
Then just pondering whether to go get lunch, do more work, or head off when power goes out in offce! yay! Leg it.

Go back to stables to check on horses. Now no water anywhere. Text M (who is still in hopsital) who says her husband is on his way back from work and will be there in 20 mins to unlock garage which has working tap. Yay! Shuffle about getting things done, turn horses out, muck out, fill nets etc. hour and a half later, no sign of husband. Sit in car and wait. He finally arrives, having also been caught in the tax check traffic jam joy for an hour. Start ferrying buckets of water down to stables in barrow to v. thirsty horses. Get all 4 stables sorted, bring all horses in, refill buckets after they all drink, realise I am v. cold, wet and DYING for the loo, and it is now nearly 4pm.
LEAVE

Tescos, tasty noms, tasty fizzy wines and home.

Am now ensconsed on sofa, with blankie, crisps, tiger rolls and BIG MUG of hot port. Do not intend to move til tomorrow. Re AFV, no idea, haven't even had time to look in mirror today, but mouth feels like it's moving more. Maybe if I actually get the REST tomorrow i've been aiming for all week, it will go away!

What you all up to this weekend then?
hellison: (arse piglets)
Yesterday - do actually interseting work from homestuff, have ouchy toes, slightly less wonky face (yay), have nap, then go do horses and head to mother's

Today - plan WAS spend day LAZING in pj's maybe finish off working from home stuff, head back to belfast , do horses, collapse, maybe actually get some of Rest and Recuperation I am supposed to be having...

What Actually Happens?
Get a text at half 10 from M (who owns the place horse is at now) saying SHE ended up in hospital last night, can I please please go feed/turn out horses as no-one has done it this morning. So, get dressed, dash to shop to get Essentials for the mother, TRY driving quickly back to belfast to horses, cursing MUCHLY at idiots still driving at 30mp when THE ROAD IS FINE YOU MORON MOVEMOVEMOVE.
Get to stables midday, feed 4 rather hungry horses, sort out haynets for turnout, break ice on drinkers. Get 3 horses out, discover tap for water for 4th all frozen so just leave him in as stable drinker fine. Muck out 3 stables, do feeds/evening hay for 3 (4th horse's people will be along later and can sort him out), fix random overflowing drinker, leave note on 4th stable to explain why he is in...

am now back home. House freezing so have taken laptop to bed. May not move from here again today as a. completely fucking exhausted and b. god knows what else could go wrong next if I do.

One bright note is still definite improvement in AFV and facial movement. Tho apparently the things that can really set it back, or even cause relapse? STRESS/TIREDNESS. YAY.

Oh, and my toes now match the new bedroom carpet. Which is nice

pretty colours )

If anyone wants me, I'll be here, in bed, DAMNING THE WORLD.
hellison: (eye)
OMG THESME - SNOWTHUNDER! and GRAUPELLING! (is that how you spell it? i can't remember ;p)

Today I will mostly be at the mother's because she had an arthritis flare up in one knee and couldn't walk yesterday. Driving in COLD and DARK when you can't put the car heat on because one eye won't close and the blowers dry it out is FUN. Hurrah!

Things are looking better today, off work again due to combination of AFV and ill mother, am also TRAPPED OMG because she lives at the bottom of a steep hill and it is a bit slippy. Probably. I'll look later.

In AFV news, had Tingling and Twitching of eye & mouth yesterday, which is apparently Good Sign of things coming back, but also v. early days so trying to pin too much on it. Eye now flickers some but still doesn't close when blinking unless I concentrate.
Also, steroids make me hyper. So going to walk round to see sister and kids before that wears off and am zombified again.
Tho, have just discovered i cannot SAY Graupelling. P's and F's tricky with half working mouth. Which makes trying to explain you have a Fucking Frozen Face fun also ;p
hellison: (eye)
So. Instead of living it up in Reading with [livejournal.com profile] shambelina and teh girls, I am at home, RESTING. Since the ARSEHOLING FACE VIRUS is, well, a virus, apparently it is best to rest lots. With eye drops and eye patches. Also am shattered, so rest seems the best plan - plus face does get sore after talking/laughing (on phone) so I imagine being out with all the lovely ladies would not have been conducive to keeping a somber, quiet frame of mind/face...

On the plus side, the steroids did make me a bit hyper this morning, so the house is cleaner and have done about 3 loads of washing. Since that wore off I have been mostly sat on the sofa watching Big Bang Theory from the start, and soon, Strictly then X factor! Quality tv (when watched along with the guardian live blogs ;p)

The only dilemna now is whether i go to the effort of making proper food, or just make a massive bowl of popcorn and crunch on that for the rest of the evening. Life is full of tricky decisions!

OOH and it snowed. A wee bit. More on the way apparently! Tomorrow so far planned for more of the same. Also have to bite the bullet (or try to, chewing with half a mouth tricky ;p) and tell the Mother about the AFV, in some way that doesn't make her panic. That'll be fun!

One last thought - combining steroids with cider - Y/N?
hellison: (arse piglets)
In the recent tradition of contracting odd and rarely heard of conditions for no apparent
reason (see Thipe re. bacterial arthritis), it appear I (or rather my body, I was not consulted) have followed suit. Well, I never was one to miss a trend!

Obviously something painful and/or debilitating would be a bit extreme so I have instead gone for a mild dose of... Bell's Palsy! Which i thought was a disease from the Olden Days! but, apparently not. Or , not anymore! The Dr was quite surprised tho, I am his first case of it in a couple of years! Yay me!

As long as I remember to keep blinking, so far it's not too bad. Til I try to talk, laugh, eat or drink - it pretty much looks (and feels!) like I've been to the dentist and the numbness hasn't quite worn off. ALL THE TIME. It should get better in 10 days or so. Have lots of steroids to be going on with, and have to get an EYE PATCH. AAARRRRR!

I feel cider may help. Possibly drunk through a straw.

So, go me? How are you all doing?

hi!

Oct. 25th, 2010 12:14 am
hellison: (bottom)
Yes, I still live. I mean to post a LOT. I just... never actually do it. You may have noticed this! I do also still read LJ, just mostly on the phone and commenting via phone is fiddly, so I *mean* to do it when i get home, then i forget and ... well, anyway. HI!

Life has been mostly work, horse, sleep, with occasional cider. Most of the evening seems taking up with driving to and from horse (about a 20 mile round trip). So, this weekend, we are moving the horse! Hurrah! to a much smaller place - essentially a couple of stables at the back of a very nice (and v. well off) lady's house. That is just over 5 minutes away! I shall have TIME and EVENINGS and all sorts of exciting things.

Other exciting things happening this week -

New bedroom! Decorator finally coming tomorrow to do all the papering and painting, then the new curtains will go up, then new carpet!!! and, hopefully soon after this, new wardrobes will arrive. YAY!

New Car!! it is all there waiting for me. Have to call to clear up details on picking it up because they phone to tell me on thurs. morning, and i was a bit out of it (for reasons to be explained below).

New saddle! existing saddle no longer fitted horse well. Went on epic quest via THREE different saddlers to try and get a 2nd hand leather one that suited both horse and self. Finally gave up and ordered a lovely Wintec Synthetic one. V. helpful saddler left me with a leather one on loan to use in the meantime.

A tale of confusion, pain and why you should always wear a hat onna horse )

(TL:DR - fell off horse onto head. nothing vital damaged)

Thursday, i was completely out of it. High as a kite! It was quite good fun really, got to lie in bed for most of the day and finally read 'I Shall Wear Midnight' (tho, should probably read it again as already I'm not sure what happened). Did go out to pick up the car and realise after about 2 mintues of driving, I probably really shouldn't BE driving, but managed to make it home and back to bed safely. At some point spoke to a Nice Man about the New Car (see above) but for some reason am not quite clear on the details, so will ring them back Monday to sort it out!

Friday, with a stiff neck and v. sore head, the obvious thing to do was load the car up with fizzy wine and treats, drive to Termonfeckin (just out Drogheda. it IS a real place) to see some lovely friends and hang out by the beach! Which, despite a rather wobbly drive down turned out to be a wonderful plan, especially when Saturday was a beautiful morning, so we had a pyjama party on the beach. And that's enough words, so I shall end on picture! (also, my head still hurts)

hellison: (procrastinate)
helloooo! I have been just a bad bad lj-er i feel I should be slinking in with my head hung in SHAME. In fact i have pretty much failed at keeping in touch with people in any form lately. But I shall try to improve!

However, for now I am off to the land of coventry to visit the lovely Being_here for a weekend of refinement, cider, culture, cider and cider. In fact, given I have to leave in half an hour, I should really be packing. I did have More Things I was going to say, but as ever left it til the last minute. However, in general, things are good, just busy, mostly with horse.

Also this weekend have Unhurt returning briefly, which will be Nice (will give you a shout sunday evening when i get back).
See? busy.

Hope you lot are all doing well and not eaten by zombies, tentacled monters, crazy families or Other Menaces.

Right. Packing.
hellison: (Default)
Hello F'list! I am still alive ;) I have been... well not even that busy and I keep (as ever) MEANING to post but never quite getting to it.
However I have finally done something exciting to post about - gone to pony camp!!
Except pony camp was a lot of hard work and riding and horse stuff and drinking wine later and I am too sleepy to post coherently. So instead, pictures!

my loooovely horse )

Will try to post more comprehensive post tomorrow, when I may have Moar Brane (aslo I want to record a lot of what we did and the technical parts we were taught before i forget it all).

In summary, pony camp = AWESOME.
hellison: (Default)
is something v. odd going on with LJ? i can only seem to get to some parts, can't read my friends page or my own journal (tho i can *edit* posts. and hopefully make new ones...)
hellison: (drunk)
Teh good - had a lovely, weekend with [livejournal.com profile] thipe, planned v. last minute (next time will be more organised and actually get to see other people too!). Saturday - arrived lunchtime, pottered thro shops then repaired to regents park with a tasty picnic, bottle of cava, large bottle of Pimms and small bottle of lemonade. Which somehow stretched thro drinking the whole bottle of Pimms (not sure how that worked, i think we just reversed the suggested '1 part pimms to 3 parts mixer' suggestion on the bottle...). Had a lovely time sitting under shady trees passing (hopefully) whispered judgement on everyone going by ;p and getting really quite drunk indeed. Eventually staggered off homewards, stopping on the way to buy more cava and snacks and passed the remainder of the evening watching Withnail & I, then soem supersizers. hmmm giles...
Today, lazy hungover morning with toast, then lazy hungover afternoon in st. james's park with more tasty treats, but no Pimms ;p

The less good - got to airport in plent of time for flight that was supposed to be at 10 past 6. Slightly perturbed tho by board saying 'gate opens at 19.05'. Even more perturbed when it was still saying that at 19.15, and now am just pissed off because it changed to 'gate opens at 21:14'. Bugger. Also, phone battery slowly dying. Woes, etc.

Still, on another plus side I do have tomorrow off work, so can sleep it all off then!

Will definitely sort out a full weekend in london (or poss. reading) soon, with more advance notice and possibly even some organisation and Seeing People! If i ever get home...
hellison: (offtopub)
My world has sunk into sudden confusion. This is not just due to the bottle of Katy and the nurofen plus (hmmm codine) due to Ankle Issues after standing around all day but but but... Homes under the hammer is on (ok, watching this IS mostly due to cider and codine ;p) and it is NOT the usual presenters with their toothy grins, oddly Big Hair and terrible puns. It is presented by ... other people - DIFFERENT people - who are, quite frankly, SHIT at presenting Homes under the Hammer. Which is an achievement.

WHAT IS GOING ON?

In other, better news, went to see Metallica last night and it was Most Excellent. Really fucking excellent. James Hetfield is a BEAST of a man. Great gig, even if it felt odd to be sitting in the Grown Up Seats not down with the looners jumping around and being close to James Hefield (damn them). Tho, given that 4 hours or so of standing/wandering about at the Balmoral Show today has reduced me to a hobbling, wincing wreck, sitting was probably the safer (if duller) option. Damn you ankle, you are meant to be better.

OMG THE WRONG PEOPLE ARE BACK (the ads were on) I don't understand!! I can not watch this, I must leave you now and find the remote.
hellison: (drunk)
ps so tired I forgot the actual POINT of the previous post which was... Peter Robinson staying and Gordon Brown going. Interesting Times!

There must be some MENTAL scurrying to and fro going on round Westminster ;)
