Y'all having a good time?
I am ;) A very lazy time, filled with crap tv and lots of food. Hurrah! Haven't even come close to killing any family members, which is always a bonus.

Tho since I have Aoife (baby niece) tonight so Karen can get some sleep, this may change tomorrow. Alas, yet another baby seems to have inherited my night-owlness somehow. It's gone well so far tho. Just an hour of relentless screaming before she fell asleep ;p Due to wake up again fairly soon, so mostly I'm just killing time now.

So, um, anyone get any good books for Christmas?
I got 2 hefty looking sci-fi ones by Peter Hamilton. Never heard of him, anyone read anything by him before?

Also lovely Ecclestone!Who dvds in v. funky (or, as my family pointed out, nerdy) tardis box.

Tomorrow [livejournal.com profile] thesme_01 comes to visit, so I may pass the sleepless hours later thinking up salacious gossip to tell her about you all. Of course in some cases this won't take very much thinking ;)

hoi. pure as driven here!

i got a book of 20th century hungarian poetry, but i'm not sure people other than me would call that good. brother #2 got me (amongst other things) a withdrawn library book for children called 'the boy with the bronze axe' set in skara brae*. it's very poor, but fairly amusing as a result.

*it says: "A thrilling adventure story centred round life in a Stone Age village. The strange boy who arrives suddenly in a boat brings with him an axe made from a substance called bronze."

Heh I wanna read the Skara Brae book when you're done!

The rest of the laurell k hamilton series :D I am beginning to dream about sexy vampires now.

I didn't get a single book! I'm most disappointed tho it was expected, had mainly wished for fantasy stuff in English which my relatives can't get easily, and Mr Kana has given me books for several years now and I think he's started to believe it to be boring :P

I think I shall get me the rest of His Dark Materals for me. Or perhaps Anansi Boys. I mean, I only got me clothes, jewellery and beauty products yesterday, surely I'm entitled to books as well?

You have lush stuff. You need nothing else.

Oh definitely, get yourself books! I'm about half way thro Anansi Boys now, it's great so far

I've read most of Hamilton's SF work, it's pretty good. Hefty, but it needs to be that long for the story to fit in.

Yeah, hefty is the word ;) But it'll keep me occupied for a while, which is always a good thing!

Is it the Night's Dawn set, or the Pandora's Star/

Is it the Night's Dawn set, or the Pandora's Star/<the other one I can't remember the name of> set?

I thought that Night's Dawn was really well written and interesting, but the ending was a leetle disappointing after the 2000+ page build up. :)

Pandora's Star I think!

Ah, I liked that one but took a little while to get into it. I think I also had a little trouble keeping track of which character was which, but that might have been more to do with reading bits of the thing and then leaving it for a while.

Will pick up the second book in the series when it's out in paperback.

I got the first 2, so I have much reading ahead ;) Haven't read any sci-fi in ages so looking forward to it!
