And the zany hamster-posting pranks they get up to...

http://education.guardian.co.uk/students/news/story/0,12891,1688415,00.html

Bizarre story. And possibly more disturbing because they're at Cambridge and, you'd *think* have at least some intellegence but with quotes like this, it appears not -

When asked why he gave a false name and address when purchasing the hamster, Jordan said: "Because I thought it would be a bit suspicious posting a hamster if I got caught."

Yes. Just a bit.

EDIT - according to the BBC they got fined and banned from owning animals for 10 years.
Personally I think this is going completely the wrong way. They should have been sent to work at a vets or animal shelter so they could see first hand what happens when people mistreat animals and hopefully learn a bit of empathy and feeling for something other than their over-priviledged selves.

Oh. And given a hefty kick up the arse too.

"I do not think it crossed my mind that it was morally wrong."

That would explain the politics of most cambridge students I've met, then. Also, woo! I get to use this icon.

That was a real jaw-dropping statement.
Are these brats being give NO moral guidance as they grow up? Are they really all just spoilt self-centred dimwits growing up in a vacuum where they are the only thing of any importance?

Bring Back the Birch! (See, it makes me come over all Letter To the Times).

Incredibly cute icon tho ;)

Holy moly, I thought they'd have at least used a tupperware container so it was internally secure, rather than a flimsy envelope :(

Or, you know, not even thought about doing it in the first place.

Wouldn't it suffocate?

Yeah, so you'd need airholes. And by that point you have a parcel with obvious holes and scritchy noises coming from it, and ensuring the hamster's "safety" (forgetting for a moment that you're entrusting it to Royal Mail and then some guy you'll piss off with said hamster) is so elaborate that you couldn't anonymously post it like these students wanted to; you'd have to take it to a post office and get funny looks.
