The Sofa Gender Realignment Man did finally show up on Friday and, in a quick and seemingly painless procedure, Sofa Part A was changed from male to female and soon firmly wedded to Sofa Part B (who remains male), with the aid of steel pins. It was a touching and somewhat bittersweet moment, but they seem happy this way. And there's less chance of losing the remote down the crack, so it's all good really ;)

[livejournal.com profile] layonee requested photos, then expanded this to a photo tour of the house and since it is her birthday tomorrow (and the place is kinda tidy for once ;p) here it is.

The lower half anyway, haven't cleared upstairs yet :p

To start, here is a one my sister very kindly took of me modelling the Leather Seating System

The front door!

which I never actually use (lawks), so we go round the side, past the Bin Collection and the old suite (must phone the council)

and in through the back door

to the kitchen, which is, by usual standards, actually quite tidy.

And then, we have THE SOFAS. Here we see parts A & B of the 'seating system' in their happily wedded hetrosexual bliss. The coffee table under the window was made by my dad.

The other sofa (I have 2! I am so modern) and teh computer, which is where I am most of the time ;)

The Fireplace That Takes Up the Entire Other Half of the Fucking Room. The actual grate bit is TINY so it's completely useless really. Except as a place to gather clutter, which I excel at ;) The bookcase in the corner was also made by Dad, after I asked him if he could 'stick a couple of shelves up' there.

He made it to go with this dresser, also made by him, which I had coveted for years and finally got when I moved in here.

And thats the living room! This is the view from the front door, now the roses are starting to bloom ;) Tho half them got blown away in nasty winds during the week.

Then, very dull staircase. Upstairs will follow in a seperate installment once I've actually cleared it up some ;p

And there you go. For now ;p As always click for larger versions!

Hmm. Also realised while writing this that it would have been Dad's birthday today.

I feel very sad for the sofa that it couldn't be loved for who it was, though the kylie risk was worth considering I guess.

Lovely house, and *hugs* about yer dad.

Poor sofa, I was very tempted to leave it as it was ;p

And thanks for the hugs. I hadn't thought about it at all til I started doing the post and then it was just... oh :/ If you know what I mean.

I know *exactly* what you mean.

Last wednesday would have been my parents 35th wedding anniversary. You know, these things jump up and bite you sometimes...

The stuff he did for your house was lovely. My mam died 11 days after I bought my first home and never saw it. Emotions are odd things, yes?

Yeah... it would have been his 70th today and I can't shake the feeling I should be at home at a big family party, not sat here.

The last proper conversation I had with him was all about the Plans he had for the house (half winding me up, as always).

There's nothing I can say to that other than I'm sorry and I'm thinking of you

*hugs*

Heh, it doesn't look much like mine does it? But if you look closely at the kitchen pic, you can see the empty fizz bottles and Shelf O' Booze ;p

Ooooh how lovely! The sofas look wonderful, and your house is beautiful.

And I'm excessively jealous of your hair.

They are all very posh and grown up and I'm not quite sure what they're doing in *my* house. Which normally looks nothing like this ;p

And thank you re. hair. I even like it myself ;)

Yay! It has a big label saying it is fire-retardant, so we can safely set him on fire again :)

My dad made the desk and shelves I have in my current flat. And no end of similar furniture at home. I dread the thought that I might one day be a dad 'cause I don't know how to do any of that stuff :-/

(and it is so much better than bought stuff because it is plain and unvarnished, just like me)

One of the reasons I love the dresser so much is that the doors aren't *quite* right and there's a knack to shutting them, which just makes it more... unique and not Standard Shop Bought.

I am clueless about the Mysteries of Woodwork and so on too, tho I have managed to put up shelves myself now.

I love your house, and that dresser is gorgeous! Yay for your dad! I do feel a little sad that you couldn't be the first to announce first upholstered civil marriage in Ireland, but remote-losing is indeed a very pesky business.

Thank you! Normally it looks like a bizarre whirlwind of clutter has been blown through it, it took all weekend to get downstairs looking this tidy ;p

and now i have to try and KEEP it this way all week, AND clear all the junk I shoved into the Spare Room before thesme visits!

I know a combination of in laws, bigwig, and brane eating have conspired to doom my evil stalking trip. Hellison and I just tried to book a replacement trip and realise we can't make it until August which is more than a bit of a joke. Fuck's sake. Anyway we WILL sort somthing out and I WILL HUNT YOUDOWN. Soooon. em.

The garden is great for lying out in on a sunny day, its a shame we don't get more of them!
I'll get upstairs done soon, this is a good incentive to get it tidied up a bit ;p
