Quiz Time!

Still not enough brane to do coherent post about the weekend. So instead a Quiz, to clear up a small Debate that occurred on friday ;p

What would you say the animal in this statue is (clicky for larger)?

I said Griffin. Dragon was also suggested. Another (frankly loony) opinion was horse. Who was right?

hint - not a horse

Clearly a dragon.

[identity profile] hellison.livejournal.com 2007-04-02 11:12 am (UTC)(link)
Ooh i forgot to put in dragon, that was also [livejournal.com profile] reuss's theory! So also likely. Not a HORSE tho ;p

[identity profile] jin-shei.livejournal.com 2007-04-02 11:15 am (UTC)(link)
Clearly a dragon. The horse is so WRONG.

Four legs, rearing up, claws, wings, insane expression, it's a horse.

[identity profile] hellison.livejournal.com 2007-04-02 11:31 am (UTC)(link)
Well to be fair, apart from the claws and wings part, you're not far off a horse there ;p

[identity profile] malvino.livejournal.com 2007-04-02 11:32 am (UTC)(link)
And if they'd voted me God, that's how I would have created horses. Far more fun all round :)

*grins* Like this (icon)?
You did have a good point about it making racing MUCH more interesting to watch ;p

Tho really, don't give them claws, they do enough damage without having access to more weapons...

[identity profile] lazy-hoor.livejournal.com 2007-04-02 11:24 am (UTC)(link)
It's a dog. With wings.

gryphon

[identity profile] being-here.livejournal.com 2007-04-02 11:42 am (UTC)(link)
Looks like a tonker to me

*worries about self*

[identity profile] hellison.livejournal.com 2007-04-02 01:07 pm (UTC)(link)
*worries about you also*

Tho that was what started the whole debate in the first place ;p

I maintain that he should be in a position to know. The rest of us can only speculate.

[identity profile] tyrell.livejournal.com 2007-04-02 11:48 am (UTC)(link)
Red cross on the shield? Dragon.
Plus, it's not a lion's body and eagle's head, so not a Griffin.

"The City of London adopted what are usually described as griffins as supporters for its coat of arms, and it marks its boundaries with statues of a single "griffin" carrying the City coat of arms at each road leading into the City of London. However, the City of London griffins are, in fact, heraldic dragons, with scaly bodies and wings, no feathers, and no eagle's beak."

So, in fact, [livejournal.com profile] hellison has managed to find a transvestite griffin?

Shocking.

[identity profile] hellison.livejournal.com 2007-04-02 01:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Heh I thought the feet looked to liony to be dragons ;p

Still not a feckin' HORSE tho ;p

[identity profile] adelpha.livejournal.com 2007-04-02 02:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe it's what horses look like when nobody's looking. They just put on the slightly bored/insane costume when people are about.

Rhino? ;)

[identity profile] fragglechick.livejournal.com 2007-04-02 12:12 pm (UTC)(link)
What I think it LOOKS like, would be some weird deformed winged rhino. So that's gonna be my final answer.

Re: Rhino? ;)

[identity profile] hellison.livejournal.com 2007-04-02 01:06 pm (UTC)(link)
hmm that one hadn't occurred. Possibly due to lack of horns. But maybe...

Re: Rhino? ;)

[identity profile] fragglechick.livejournal.com 2007-04-02 01:15 pm (UTC)(link)
It looks like it's got a horn. Or THE horn. Although maybe that's just the light... ;)

Re: Rhino? ;)

[identity profile] hellison.livejournal.com 2007-04-02 01:17 pm (UTC)(link)
hah, you know, you could be right there ;p

[identity profile] dasquian.livejournal.com 2007-04-02 12:33 pm (UTC)(link)
It's a hippogriff!

[identity profile] malvino.livejournal.com 2007-04-02 02:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Correct answer too, hippo meaning horse as it does :P

[identity profile] hellison.livejournal.com 2007-04-02 03:17 pm (UTC)(link)
I was wondering if you'd spot that ;p Thanks again for the company friday btw, it certainly made the queueing a lot more bearable!
