So. Either I'll walk again soon (and be able to reach the fridge and/or chip shop much more easily) or... my leg will disappear?

But surely your leg isn't what's causing the problem, it's your lack of ability to walk?! Not to worry, the chip shop is within reach and expansion will be yours :-P

A very good point! Yes, once the lack of ability to walk has disappeared, glorious chippy expansion shall be mine! AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!

actually, i have somehow managed not to pile on weight despite being immobile and may have to try and keep this up!
