Monday ramblings

Bleh. Rainy rainy grey monday. Tho the sound of the rain on the roof here is quite soothing.

Had a lovely, relaxing and mostly hermit-like weekend.

Friday, came home, had popcorn and fizzy wine while crying at Coronation St. Even tho I am not a soap fan ;p Still, it was well done. Then watched... other stuff, can't even remember what, til bedtime.

Saturday was a totally hermit day. Long lie in, followed by much lying on sofa reading. Didn't even bother mudding really, just... lolled. Only ventured out to go to tescos for bread and cat food. Tried out lovely new cat boots tho, which are good - aren't taking as much breaking in as I'd feared and are helping the whole walking crutchless thing loads. Then more sofa, reading and tv. Including TWO episodes of Deadliest Catch. I fear greatly that I may be getting sucked in *worries*.

Sunday was more sociable, with family stuff and actual House Leaving. Which was good. Also discovered I can now pick up my niece and carry her again, which pleased the little princess no end. Then rounded off watching Aliens V. Predator, which I enjoyed greatly. BOOOOM! Tempted to go see the new one now in the cinema when it comes out ;)

One quick question tho for the more Fitness Enabled types among you. The... bugger EIGHT months now of Just Sitting has left me totally unfit, and since my usual forms of exercise - walking, riding, swimming - are still pretty much out, I have no idea what to do to to start getting fit again. Even going up and down stairs doesn't help cos I go so slowly it doesn't really take any effort.
There must be something I can do at home tho. Still considering getting an exercise bike just to get started, and build up the sadly absent leg muscles.
Any other suggestions?

ETA on a positive note, just walked the whole way to shop for lunch AND back without using the crutch! Even got up and down kerbs! Go me!

How come you can't swim? I would have thought that would be a perfect exercise - low impact and all.

[identity profile] hellison.livejournal.com 2008-01-21 12:57 pm (UTC)(link)
The actual swimming would be great - it's getting in and out of the pool that would be tricky, since they only have those crappy metal ladder things.
Also, while I can manage without the crutch with shoes on, I still have real trouble walking barefoot even *with* the crutch which, combined with slippy wet floors, just seems like asking for trouble.

[identity profile] lazy-hoor.livejournal.com 2008-01-21 12:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah, I see. Yeah, that would be a problem alright.

Some leg stuff here

[identity profile] hellison.livejournal.com 2008-01-21 01:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Stupid leg. Tho, thinking about it, I could probably wear croc to & from pool edge, so I just have to figure out how to get in and out. Maybe in a couple of weeks when I'm better at steps!

That link is a handy one tho, will peruse and see if i can get myself off the sofa at home and actually Do something

[identity profile] lazy-hoor.livejournal.com 2008-01-21 01:09 pm (UTC)(link)
You can get special socks with non-stick soles. I got them for aquarobics but never wore them, but yeah, the steps would still be an issue.

But hey! Last time I was in Italy I was in a swimming pool and saw an old man with a false leg in the pool! I can't remember how he got in and out though, I was mesmerised by his leg cos it was all floaty n shit.

[identity profile] hellison.livejournal.com 2008-01-21 01:30 pm (UTC)(link)
I shall look out for those, they sound handy. I wonder if that leisure centre does aquarobics, i did that years ago and loved it, so much more fun that normal horrible sweaty aerobics ;p

[identity profile] lazy-hoor.livejournal.com 2008-01-21 01:33 pm (UTC)(link)
False legs are dead handy, yeah!

Yeah, aquarobics is better than the sweaty stuff alright.

[identity profile] hellison.livejournal.com 2008-01-21 01:43 pm (UTC)(link)
You could paint it orange and play baywatch!

maybe i could try it with the roboboot :p

[identity profile] thesme-01.livejournal.com 2008-01-22 10:54 am (UTC)(link)
I read that as 'all floaty in shit'

*scrubs cerebrum*

hope the link works this time

I can't quite work out if that's meant be excercise FOR the cat, or exercises USING the cat!

And also how that woman still has intact face/arm skin.

Exercise using the cat, obv! I know cats like stretching, and running, but I can't seem them weight training...

Your cats are obviously ill brought up and lacking discipline. ;p

Where as yours are models of good behaviour? Next time I am in the Vicinity, i shall get thesme to bring me over and you can display these cat exercises for me :)

Er, ok... That won't be a problem, no.. Clyde loves being picked up, he lets me know through a variety of throaty noises!

Re: hope the link works this time

I shall look forward to that then!

The way back home it was Bonnie who kicked off!

[identity profile] shambelina.livejournal.com 2008-01-21 01:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Dan says sex - extreme feltzing was mentioned

More practically = why not exercise leg in baff, and you can do step aerobics on your stairs

Dan's further suggestion is midget kicking

I think him working from home today has addled his brain - if he ever had one

Going to kick him

[identity profile] hellison.livejournal.com 2008-01-21 01:16 pm (UTC)(link)
I do have one of those step things, had to get it to do Getting On and Off steps practice (cos my stairs are too narrow to do the backwards part), so I might see if I can find stuff to add to just... getting on and off it ;p

The sex does sound like a great plan, all i have to do is trap find someone to have teh sex0r with!

Midget kicking sounds ace, and would certainly build up leg strength ;p

http://www.dietandfitnessresources.co.uk/home_gym/info/step_aerobics.htm

That has a pdf of exercises.

ANd from another site - just because it made me piss

Do things at your own level - Tripping or having a heart attack is bad.

http://www.turnstep.com/

this one might be ok

[identity profile] hellison.livejournal.com 2008-01-21 02:12 pm (UTC)(link)
heh the turnstep one has wee pictures with moving feet to demonstrate the scary sounding things like 'reverse V step' ;p

Ta, those should come in handy!

[identity profile] kanaalzahir.livejournal.com 2008-01-22 08:01 am (UTC)(link)
Oooh, now you make me miss step aerobics! So much FUN! Grapevine everyone!

[identity profile] hellison.livejournal.com 2008-01-21 05:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Cunning. Veery cunning. Tho that trap looks like it'd break his back, which would render him... unfit for purpose. Now something similar that dropped a big net, or a cage perhaps, would be much better!

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_unhurt_/ 2008-01-21 05:28 pm (UTC)(link)
or perhaps you could buy a sheepskin jacket and hang around reception?

[identity profile] hellison.livejournal.com 2008-01-21 05:32 pm (UTC)(link)
ahah very funny ;p

tho I do actually have a full length sheepskin type coat in the car

I did look at cross trainers and figured they'd been too strong for the ankle, so a bike seems the best option - the pilates is great for toning and strengthing muscles, but not so much for the cardio end of things. Tho I really should try and do more of it at home!
I might talk to the instructor tho and see when she has other classes on - before now, I had the horse every other night, so once a week was the only option, I keep forgetting now that I have all this free time!

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_unhurt_/ 2008-01-21 05:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Including TWO episodes of Deadliest Catch. I fear greatly that I may be getting sucked in *worries*.

NOW YOU MUST NAME YOUR FAVOURITE BOAT.

I INSIST UPON IT!

[identity profile] hellison.livejournal.com 2008-01-21 05:19 pm (UTC)(link)
What? I only saw TWO episodes! And there were lots of boats. And crabs. And fishermen. I can't be expected to tell them apart, never mind have a favourite!

I do quite like cap'n sig tho ;p

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_unhurt_/ 2008-01-21 05:40 pm (UTC)(link)

[identity profile] hellison.livejournal.com 2008-01-21 11:55 pm (UTC)(link)

said hellison as she disappeared into the inner (rear) depths of Cap'n Sig.

[identity profile] hellison.livejournal.com 2008-01-22 11:10 am (UTC)(link)
See, things like this make it MUCH easier to NOT get sucked in ;p
